Our children’s program is currently hiring Residential Direct Support Professional to work at our Largo home with children who have experienced trauma. Our program works with an all-male population typically between the ages of 8 to 16 years old.
The Direct Support Professional must maintain safe conditions for our residents and provide specific training, supervision, and assistance services, documenting as directed.
The Direct Support Professional must be physically able to respond to behavioral and medical emergencies . Your support is needed in many areas of daily living such as medication administration, hygiene, grooming, shopping, meal preparation, transportation, and housekeeping.
Using effective teaching and mentoring techniques, you provide life skills training such as financial management and behavior management strategies.
This position requires staff to interact with the children and assist them with their daily needs. Also, light cleaning, completing bed checks every 15 minutes, daily documents, medication administration in the morning, cooking breakfast, etc.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two years’ experience working with youth that have experienced trauma and have behaviors is preferred.
- Experience of at least 2 years working with individuals that have special needs a plus.
- A plus- Experienced and has been certified in a hands-on crisis management system (ex: PCM, SAFE, CARE, MAB, etc..)
- A plus - Behavioral assistant/ Behavior Health Technician training

· WEEKDAYS (Monday - Friday)
1:00pm - 9:00pm hrs
Pay Rate: $18 to start

- Must pass DCF Level 2 and local law screens
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
- To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the program, all employees in this position must meet the standards of our organizations Driving Policy. This includes the following:
1. Must hold a current valid Florida Driver’s License (must be non-expired, not suspended, not restricted)
2. Must be able to provide proof of insurance on personal vehicle (employee must be listed as covered driver)
3. Have acceptable driving record (certain driving convictions will not meet the definition of an acceptable driver)
KNOWLEDGE OF: characteristics of developmental disabilities including intellectual disabilities; autism; epilepsy; cerebral palsy; first aid; CPR; medication management; emergency procedures; teaching techniques, prompting, procedures for preventing, diffusing and managing aggression; services as well as standard residential operating procedures.
SKILLS: skills in use of non-aversive techniques to manage behavior problems;
ABILITIES: make sound and safe decisions as regards behavior management, health needs, emergencies; perform work assignments under little or no direct supervision as the supervisor may be at a different location; analyze needs of non-verbal residents and respond appropriately; conduct domestic (daily living and self-help skills training), community and recreational skills training programs. de-escalate and manage aggressive persons; and drive defensively. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including lifting a consumer who needs assistance and use of assistive devices.
