We are seeking a highly strategic and technically strong Senior Director – Fleet Telemetry Engineering to lead the strategy, architecture, engineering, and management of data generated across our commercial and residential solar and renewable energy fleet .

This is a senior-level data leadership position for a true data person who understands how to take large, complex streams of telemetry and operational data and turn them into reliable, actionable intelligence.

The Senior Director will own the end-to-end data ecosystem supporting our distributed energy assets, including solar systems, inverters, batteries, monitoring platforms, connected devices, sensors, and other field equipment. This leader will bring together data from the commercial and residential businesses to create a unified, scalable, and trusted data environment.

The successful candidate will bridge data engineering, telemetry, IoT, renewable energy operations, analytics, and business strategy , enabling the organization to better understand asset performance, identify issues, optimize energy production, reduce operating costs, and improve customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Fleet & Telemetry Data Strategy

• Own the overall strategy for telemetry and operational data across the company's commercial and residential renewable energy assets.
• Establish a unified data strategy across solar installations, inverters, batteries, meters, monitoring systems, IoT devices, and other connected equipment.
• Take enterprise ownership of the organization's fleet and asset data, ensuring commercial and residential data can be accessed, analyzed, and leveraged consistently.
• Develop the long-term roadmap for telemetry, data infrastructure, analytics, and intelligent asset management.
• Identify opportunities to turn existing operational data into new business and operational capabilities.

Data Engineering & Architecture

• Lead the architecture and development of scalable data platforms capable of handling high-volume, real-time telemetry.
• Design and oversee data pipelines for collecting, processing, transforming, storing, and distributing asset and energy data.
• Integrate data from multiple monitoring platforms, inverter manufacturers, battery systems, IoT devices, APIs, enterprise applications, and third-party data providers.
• Establish common data models and standards across commercial and residential systems.
• Build reliable infrastructure for both real-time operational monitoring and historical analytics.
• Reduce data fragmentation and eliminate siloed information across business units and technology platforms.

Renewable Energy Asset Intelligence

• Develop the data foundation necessary to monitor the health and performance of distributed renewable energy assets.
• Enable visibility into system production, availability, efficiency, outages, equipment performance, alarms, and operational trends.
• Leverage telemetry to identify performance anomalies and potential equipment failures.
• Support predictive maintenance and proactive issue resolution.
• Develop capabilities to identify underperforming solar assets and determine the underlying causes.
• Enable optimization of energy production, asset utilization, maintenance, and field-service operations.

Commercial & Residential Data Integration

• Establish a common data strategy spanning commercial and residential solar operations .
• Create consistent definitions, metrics, and data standards across both business segments.
• Develop a unified view of asset, customer, energy-production, maintenance, and operational data.
• Understand the differences between commercial and residential systems while creating an architecture that supports both.
• Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities to leverage data across the organization.

Analytics, AI & Machine Learning

• Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to turn telemetry into actionable insights.
• Build the infrastructure necessary to support advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI applications.
• Enable predictive models for equipment failures, system performance, energy production, and maintenance requirements.
• Develop data products and dashboards that provide executives and operational teams with real-time visibility into fleet performance.
• Establish trusted datasets that allow analysts and business leaders to self-serve information.

Data Quality & Governance

• Establish enterprise standards for data quality, governance, ownership, lineage, security, and accessibility.
• Ensure telemetry data is accurate, complete, consistent, and available in a timely manner.
• Establish monitoring and controls for data pipelines and critical data sources.
• Create clear ownership and definitions for key operational and performance metrics.
• Ensure appropriate security, privacy, and regulatory controls around customer, asset, energy, and operational data.

Leadership & Team Development

• Build and lead a high-performing organization of data engineers, telemetry engineers, architects, and technical leaders.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop top technical talent.
• Establish engineering standards, architecture principles, development processes, and performance expectations.
• Manage strategic technology investments, vendors, and external data/technology partners.
• Build a culture centered around data quality, engineering excellence, accountability, and measurable business outcomes.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner with executive leadership to establish the company's long-term data and telemetry strategy.
• Work closely with Operations, Field Services, Engineering, Product, Finance, Sales, Customer Experience, and IT.
• Translate complex technical and data concepts into clear business recommendations.
• Identify opportunities where better data can improve revenue, operating efficiency, customer satisfaction, and asset performance.
• Serve as the company's senior subject matter expert on fleet telemetry and renewable energy asset data.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, telemetry, IoT, connected devices, or related fields.
• 5+ years of experience leading technical/data engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated experience owning enterprise-scale data platforms and data ecosystems.
• Strong understanding of real-time data, telemetry, IoT, streaming architectures, APIs, and distributed data systems.
• Experience designing and implementing modern cloud-based data architectures.
• Strong understanding of data lakes, data warehouses, ETL/ELT, APIs, event-driven architectures, and real-time data processing.
• Experience integrating data from multiple technology platforms and external systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex datasets and translate data into business value.
• Strong executive communication and cross-functional leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in solar, renewable energy, energy storage, distributed energy resources, utilities, or clean technology .
• Experience with solar monitoring systems, inverters, batteries, energy management systems, or connected energy assets.
• Experience working with high-volume telemetry generated from distributed assets.
• Experience with predictive maintenance, asset performance management, or energy analytics.
• Experience applying AI and machine learning to operational or asset data.
• Experience supporting both commercial and residential energy environments.
• Experience leading data modernization or enterprise data transformation initiatives.
