Overview
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department
Location: Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, ME
Employment Type: Full-time | Night Shifts | 7 PM – 7 AM | 12-Hour Shifts
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in delivering safe, patient-focused care in a dynamic Emergency Department (ED). This position involves direct patient interaction, rapid assessments, triage, emergency interventions, and critical clinical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care within the Emergency Department (ED)
- Conduct rapid assessments, triage patients, and prioritize care needs
- React promptly to acute changes, trauma cases, and life-threatening situations
- Analyze laboratory results, diagnostic tests, and patient symptoms
- Communicate patient conditions effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and emergency treatments
- Educate patients and their families regarding care plans and discharge instructions
- Ensure adherence to EMTALA, HIPAA, and patient safety regulations
- Report any suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with regulatory guidelines
- Maintain precise and timely documentation of patient care
Education, Experience, and Training:
- Valid and current state RN License
- Current BLS certification upon hire and ongoing maintenance
- ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire and must be kept current
- PALS certification and/or ENPC required within 30 days of hire and must be kept current
- Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation certification within 30 days of hire
- At least one year of experience as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital; experience in an ER setting is preferred
- Certification as an Emergency Nurse (CEN) is preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
- If in a Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN certification required within 12 months of hire and must be maintained
- For EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric courses 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire
- For non-OB facilities: NRP certification required within 90 days of hire and must be maintained
- Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) must be completed within 12 months of hire
