About the Opportunity The Associate Director of Business Career Advising is the dedicated career specialist for students pursuing finance, consulting, marketing, business analytics, and related business disciplines at Northeastern University. As a core member of the Career Education Center’s sector‑based advising team, this role brings deep, current knowledge of the business talent market to every phase of student career development—from first‑year exploration to full‑time offer negotiation. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree is required; an MBA or master’s degree in higher education, counseling, business administration, finance, or a related field is preferred. 4‑6 years of experience in career services, business recruiting, workforce development, or the financial services, consulting, or marketing industries, with demonstrated understanding of business sector hiring practices. Substantive knowledge of finance, consulting, marketing, and business analytics job markets, including familiarity with investment banking and financial services recruiting cycles, consulting case interview processes, and brand‑management career pathways. Experience advising students or early‑career professionals in business fields and translating complex industry dynamics into actionable guidance. Experience managing others, including regular coaching, performance feedback, and professional development for a high‑performing, student‑centered advising practice. Proficiency with career management platforms (e.g., Handshake) and labor market intelligence tools (e.g., Lightcast, LinkedIn Talent Insights). Knowledge of AI‑enabled career development tools is a plus. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain employer relationships across financial services, consulting, and consumer and B2B industries, converting those relationships into full‑time hiring opportunities for students. Data fluency: ability to interpret employment outcome data, labor market trends, and program metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform programming decisions. Strong presentation, coaching, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage effectively with students at varying levels of business experience. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Sector‑Specialized Career Advising & Student Coaching Provide individualized advising and coaching for students and recent graduates pursuing internships and full‑time opportunities in finance, consulting, marketing, and related fields. Supervise up to two Assistant Directors of Career Education, ensuring coaching quality and professional development. Sector Programming Design & Delivery Design, deliver, and continuously improve a calendar of sector‑specific programming that covers industry exploration, networking, mock interviews, career fairs, and salary negotiation. Partner with faculty, student organizations, and employers to tailor content and evaluate program effectiveness using attendance, engagement, and downstream employment outcomes. Employer Engagement & Full‑Time Hiring Pipeline Cultivate and steward relationships with finance, consulting, marketing, and related sector employers—including investment banks, consulting practices, accounting firms, and startups—to generate internship and full‑time opportunities. Coordinate on‑campus recruiting, information sessions, and hiring events, tracking pipeline health and identifying gaps in sector coverage. Labor Market Intelligence & Data‑Informed Practice Monitor business labor market trends—hiring volumes, emerging roles, compensation benchmarks, and geographic hubs—and synthesize intelligence into programming, advising, and student resources. Maintain sector‑specific employment outcome data and share insights with colleagues, academic partners, and students. Cross‑Campus Collaboration & Sector Representation Serve as the Career Education Center’s embedded expert for the business sector in cross‑campus partnerships. Build working relationships with the D’Amore‑McKim School of Business, Khoury College, College of Engineering, and other programs. Represent the business sector at team meetings, contribute to strategic planning, and strengthen sector expertise across the Center.
