Job Description

The Paint Technician applies high-quality coats of paint, varnish, and enamel to a variety of materials in a clean, well-equipped shop environment. This role requires a well-rounded professional who understands the general operation of a paint shop, including custom painting, surface preparation, and equipment maintenance. The ideal candidate takes pride in detail, maintains a safe and organized workspace, and contributes to an efficient and collaborative production environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret work orders to understand painting requirements, specifications, and priorities.

• Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, and smoothing to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality.

• Select premixed paints or accurately mix pigments, oils, thinners, and drying substances to achieve specified colors and finishes.

• Apply paint, varnish, and enamel primarily using a spray gun, ensuring consistent coverage and high-quality results.

• Operate and adjust spray equipment, including HVLP and other paint sprayers, to meet job specifications.

• Continuously clean and maintain spray guns, hoses, paint booths, and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.

• Use hand tools and power tools as needed for paint preparation, finishing, and related tasks.

• Perform industrial painting tasks, including work in an industrial paint booth and on various materials and components.

• Support paint prep activities such as sanding, masking, and cleaning parts prior to painting.

• Maintain a clean, organized work area, including tools, equipment, and surrounding workspace.

• Follow quality control standards and inspect finished work to ensure it meets required specifications and appearance standards.

• Use a respirator and other personal protective equipment correctly and consistently when required.

• Assist other departments when needed and collaborate with team members to support overall production goals.

• Work independently or as part of a team, managing time and tasks to complete assignments efficiently within scheduled shifts.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience applying paint, varnish, and enamel to various materials in an industrial or shop environment.

• Hands-on experience with hand tools and power tools used in paint preparation and finishing.

• Demonstrated proficiency in industrial painting, including paint prep, sanding, and surface preparation.

• Ability to use and maintain spray guns, including HVLP (high volume low pressure) systems and other paint sprayers.

• Experience working in a paint booth and familiarity with industrial paint processes.

• Comfort working with a respirator and adhering to safety procedures related to painting and coatings.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of daily tasks.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control to ensure high standards of finish and workmanship.

• Capability to work independently and as part of a team, contributing to a cooperative and efficient work environment.

• Flexibility to assist other departments and adapt to changing priorities as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with industrial painting in a warehouse or shop floor environment.

• Familiarity with paint booths, industrial paint applications, and related equipment.

• Experience in using sandblasting, powder coating, or automotive/auto paint processes is beneficial.

• Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in a production setting.

• Comfort working with paint prep tasks such as sanding, masking, and cleaning parts.

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new painting techniques, materials, and equipment.

• Reliability in following work orders, schedules, and established procedures.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean warehouse and shop floor environment with a dedicated paint booth and modern painting equipment. The schedule offers two separate shifts: Monday through Thursday and Thursday through Sunday, with typical hours from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work involves regular use of spray guns, HVLP systems, paint booths, hand tools, and power tools, as well as the use of respirators and other protective equipment. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, providing a professional setting for industrial painting and custom finishing work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tualatin, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
