Job Title: Material Handler

Department: Packaging Line

Pay Rate: $19/hr.

Schedule: Monday - Sunday 9 AM- 5: 30 PM (must be open to 8-10hr. Shifts)

Job Summary
The Packaging Line Associate / Material Handler supports daily packaging operations in a food manufacturing facility. Associates may rotate between various workstations based on production needs. Core responsibilities include material handling, packaging material preparation, glass jar inspection, container air-rinsing, labeling support, case packing, palletizing, finished goods staging, recycling, and maintaining a clean, safe, and GMP-compliant work area.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

1. Material Handling & Line Support

• Transport pallets, glass jars, finished products, boxes, bins, PPE supplies, and other materials safely across the facility.
• Operate an electric pallet jack only in approved areas after receiving V-Spec authorization.
• Stage materials, remove shrink wrap, and actively monitor material shortages.
• Keep walkways, emergency exits, electrical panels, safety equipment, and traffic paths clear at all times.

2. Jar Preparation, Inspection, & Air-Rinsing

• Verify correct jar types and packaging materials against production orders.
• Unload empty glass jars carefully and inspect them for chips, cracks, contamination, foreign materials, visible damage, or defects.
• Air-rinse glass jars using approved facility equipment.
• Immediately report any air supply, equipment, or contamination concerns.
• Safety Mandate: Never direct compressed air toward yourself, clothing, or other team members.

3. Labeling, Case Packing, & Palletizing

• Assist with verifying labels, date codes, lot numbers, product names, flavors, and batches.
• Inspect finished jars for leaks, loose lids, label defects, damage, or contamination.
• Pack cases in approved quantities/methods without mixing flavors, products, labels, lots, or batches.
• Palletize, wrap, label, and stage completed pallets as assigned.

4. Housekeeping & Reporting

• Break down cardboard cartons, build recycling pallets, and return bins and pallets to designated areas.
• Clean assigned work areas regularly to keep production spaces orderly and compliant.
• Promptly report product quality issues, labeling discrepancies, damaged packaging, broken glass, foreign material, equipment concerns, safety hazards, or shortages to management.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience:
• Prior hands-on electric pallet jack experience is required .
• Previous experience in food manufacturing, packaging, warehousing, distribution, bottling, labeling, or case packing is strongly preferred.
• Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older to operate powered equipment.
• Skills & Abilities:
• Reliable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented.
• Strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), PPE protocols, quality standards, and attendance policies.
• Ability to read and accurately recognize product names, flavors, labels, date codes, lot numbers, quantities, pallet sheets, and basic production instructions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Physical Capabilities:
• Standing and walking for extended periods (shifts up to 12 hours as needed).
• Repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching, twisting, squatting, gripping, and pushing/pulling.
• Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs unassisted. (Loads over 50 lbs require a team lift or mechanical assistance).

• Work Environment:
• Food packaging facility featuring conveyors, pallets, powered equipment, glass containers, and pedestrian traffic.
• Conditions may include warm areas, elevated noise levels, cardboard dust, adhesive residue, and wet/slippery floors.
• Ability to adapt to changing production priorities while following posted signs, traffic routes, restricted areas, and supervisor instructions.
