Logistics Manager

Search Solution Group is seeking a Logistics Manager on behalf of our client, a full-service industrial recycling company in New Hampton, Iowa. The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing all transportation, dispatch, fleet coordination, and logistics operations to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of materials. This role manages inbound and outbound freight, coordinates drivers and third-party carriers, optimizes routing and equipment utilization, and ensures compliance with DOT regulations. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong logistics expertise, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to continuous operational improvement.

Key Responsibilities Transportation & Dispatch Management

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate all inbound and outbound freight activities.
• Optimize transportation routes to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and improve equipment utilization.
• Schedule customer pickups, deliveries, trailer exchanges, and service requests.
• Coordinate company drivers and third-party carriers to ensure timely deliveries.
• Monitor daily transportation operations and proactively resolve delays or service interruptions.
• Balance freight demands with available drivers, trailers, and equipment.
• Maintain accurate dispatch schedules and transportation records.
• Prepare and distribute Bills of Lading, manifests, weight tickets, shipping documents, and required transportation paperwork.
• Track shipments from dispatch through final delivery.

Fleet & Equipment Management

• Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for trucks, trailers, forklifts, compactors, balers, and other transportation equipment.
• Partner with maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
• Monitor trailer locations, fleet availability, and equipment utilization.
• Schedule routine and emergency repairs as needed.
• Communicate equipment needs and fleet status to leadership.

Customer & Vendor Relations

• Serve as the primary point of contact for transportation-related customer communications.
• Provide shipment updates, delivery schedules, and service information.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, carriers, and transportation vendors.
• Resolve transportation issues quickly while maintaining exceptional customer service.
• Collaborate effectively with operations, warehouse personnel, sales teams, and management.

Operational Excellence

• Identify opportunities to reduce freight costs while improving service levels.
• Analyze transportation data and recommend process improvements.
• Develop standardized dispatch procedures and logistics best practices.
• Improve routing efficiency, scheduling, and fleet utilization.
• Assist with strategic transportation planning to support business growth.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate transportation, dispatch, and freight records.
• Update dispatch software, transportation management systems, and spreadsheets.
• Verify freight invoices, shipment documentation, and transportation records for accuracy.
• Reconcile transportation documentation with accounting for accurate billing.
• Assist with transportation reporting, operational metrics, and cost analysis.
• Maintain organized electronic and physical logistics records.

Inventory & Operational Support

• Assist with inventory counts, trailer audits, and warehouse coordination.
• Coordinate transportation schedules with warehouse operations.
• Support inventory movement to ensure timely customer deliveries.
• Assist sales teams with transportation planning and customer logistics solutions.
• Support operational projects and additional logistics initiatives as needed.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

• Maintain knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and transportation compliance requirements.
• Ensure transportation activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Verify driver qualifications and required documentation.
• Promote a culture of workplace safety throughout transportation operations.
• Maintain transportation compliance records and documentation.

Requirements Include Education

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transportation dispatch, logistics coordination, fleet management, or transportation operations.
• Experience coordinating multiple drivers, trailers, and customer delivery schedules.
• Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Experience within the recycling, manufacturing, transportation, or industrial services industries is preferred.
