About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2+ years License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Medical ICU experience in a large facility - Comfortable with hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management - Critical thinker - Flexible and able to work well with others Description: This position involves caring for patients who require close monitoring and advanced interventions. The unit has a capacity of 10 beds that manage both ICU and PCU overflow patients. The patient ratios are 2:1 for ICU and 4-5:1 for PCU. Staffing includes 1 Charge RN and 5 Staff RNs on night shifts. No unit secretaries or patient care technicians are available. Equipment utilized includes lift equipment, Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) devices, ventilators, and IV pumps. The documentation system in place is Cerner. Scheduling requires working 12-hour shifts, every other weekend, and support for holiday shifts. Floating to different units may be required. Bedside shift report is mandatory for all staff. Relief charge nurses must perform nurse leader rounding. Advanced skills needed include ventilator management, critical care pharmacology, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and central line management. Procedures performed on the unit include assisting providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations. Prospective candidates should be aware of the advanced equipment and technologies available on the unit. The unit values collaboration, flexibility, and teamwork among staff members. Candidates should possess the ability to adapt and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
