Job Description

Job Description

Academic Clinical Gastroenterologist

Position Overview: Our organization is seeking a full-time general gastroenterologist to join the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. The successful candidate will provide clinical services at various locations, including the Downtown and Midtown Campuses of the University of Maryland, the Baltimore VA Medical Center, and several community practices, as well as local ambulatory surgical centers. The anticipated faculty rank is Assistant Professor or higher, with the final rank, tenure status, and salary being determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected individual.

Compensation Details:

The expected salary range for Assistant Professors is between $225,865 (minimum) and $438,554 (maximum). This range reflects base pay, which is influenced by faculty rank and years of service. It is important to note that this salary range does not encompass all elements of the departmental compensation program or earnings from participation in variable compensation initiatives. Consequently, the actual salary for the chosen candidate may differ from the stated range.

The salary range mentioned is based on the organization's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not every candidate will qualify for the upper limit of this range. The final compensation will depend on various factors, including geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, and educational background, as reasonably assessed by the organization.

Benefits and Working Conditions:
  • Comprehensive wellness programs that emphasize work/life balance and professional growth.
  • Participation in a retirement plan effective from the date of hire.
  • A generous leave package, including over four weeks of vacation accrued annually, paid holidays, personal leave, and unlimited sick time accrual.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage.
  • Opportunities for professional development and tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland institution.
Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a medical degree from an accredited domestic institution or an equivalent foreign degree. A strong dedication to patient care and education, along with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent clinical and endoscopic skills and be board-certified or board-eligible in Gastroenterology. A background in clinical research is highly preferred. As this role is partially funded by the VA, all applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Application Process:

Interested candidates should apply online and submit a CV along with a cover letter that includes the names and contact details of three references. While not mandatory, applicants are encouraged to include a statement reflecting their views on equity, diversity, inclusion, and civility.

Our organization is committed to equal opportunity employment. All qualified individuals will be considered for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected Veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law or policy. We value diversity and its contribution to our academic and scientific community, striving to foster an inclusive environment for all employees.
