Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients by prescription and under the supervision of a physician and the Director of Respiratory Care or designee.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Provides ventilator care, secretion mobilization treatments, and other treatments as ordered by physician.
• Provides all aspects of airway care, maintenance, and education.
• Performs breathing assessments and mechanics as needed for all purposes as ordered by physician.
• Interprets orders - draws and analyzes arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosage.
• Participates in ambulation and mobility.
• Charts all pertinent information on patient's chart.
• Assists in bedside bronchoscopy.
• Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
• May act in the role of charge therapist and carry out shift responsibilities as assigned.
• Assists in the orientation and training of students, new staff members, patients, families, and care.
• Active member of code team – responds to emergencies and provides care, CPR, airway maintenance including intubation.
• Represents Respiratory Care as a member of the multidisciplinary patient care team.
• Evaluates patients upon admission & discharge.

Requirements:

• Associate's of Science degree required
• Bachelor's degree in a health related field preferred
• Current RRT certificate required
• Current CT RCP license required
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications required

WORK SCHEDULE: 36 hours, days, 3-12 hour shifts, 7a - 7:30p including every other weekend and holiday
