About Advanced Fire & Safety
Advanced Fire & Safety is a growing, family-owned fire protection company serving commercial customers throughout Nebraska and Iowa. We specialize in commercial kitchen fire suppression systems, fire extinguisher services, inspections, installations, and ongoing maintenance.
We're a close-knit team that values hard work, taking care of our employees, and providing excellent service to our customers. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Fire Suppression Technician who wants more than just another service position.
This is an opportunity to join a growing company, work directly with ownership, and potentially develop into a technical leadership or operations management role.
Position Overview
We're seeking an experienced Senior Fire Suppression Technician with a strong background in commercial kitchen fire suppression systems.
This individual will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing fire suppression systems throughout our service territory. The majority of the work involves service and inspections, with additional installation, deficiency correction, and system upgrade responsibilities.
The ideal candidate has at least four years of hands-on commercial kitchen suppression experience, can work independently, and takes pride in delivering quality service.
For someone interested in career advancement, this position offers a potential path into a Lead Technician, Trainer, or Operations Management role. As the company grows, the goal is for this individual to help train new technicians, support field operations, and gradually take on additional leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, service, maintain, and repair commercial kitchen fire suppression systems.
- Troubleshoot system deficiencies and perform necessary repairs and upgrades.
- Install new fire suppression systems and complete modifications to existing systems.
- Perform fire extinguisher inspections, maintenance, and service.
- Work with various suppression system manufacturers, including ANSUL, Amerex, Pyro-Chem, Buckeye, CaptiveAire, and Badger.
- Ensure all work meets applicable NFPA standards, manufacturer specifications, and safety requirements.
- Accurately complete inspection reports, service documentation, and work orders.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding system conditions, deficiencies, and recommended repairs.
- Independently manage daily service assignments throughout Nebraska and Iowa.
- As the company grows, assist with mentoring, training, and developing newer technicians.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on commercial kitchen fire suppression experience.
- Experience inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial kitchen suppression systems.
- Familiarity with one or more major fire suppression system manufacturers.
- Ability to diagnose system deficiencies and complete repairs independently.
- Experience with fire extinguisher inspection and service.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
- Willingness to travel throughout Nebraska and Iowa.
- Ability to pass required background and drug screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Manufacturer training or certifications in ANSUL, Amerex, Pyro-Chem, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of NFPA 17A and NFPA 96.
- Experience training, mentoring, or leading other technicians.
- Experience with service documentation or field service management software.
- Interest in growing into a technical leadership or operations management position.
Current manufacturer certifications are not required. Advanced Fire & Safety will assist qualified candidates in obtaining the necessary manufacturer certifications.
Compensation & Benefits
- $28–$35/hour , depending on experience and qualifications.
- Higher compensation may be considered for exceptional candidates.
- Four-day workweek for field technicians.
- Company-provided service vehicle with the ability to dispatch from home.
- Company phone and credit card.
- Seven paid holidays.
- Paid time off, with flexibility for experienced candidates.
- SIMPLE IRA retirement plan.
- AFLAC supplemental insurance options.
- Company-provided uniforms.
- Uniform laundry service where available.
- Annual boot allowance of up to $275 after the first year.
- Manufacturer training and certification support.
- Double-time pay for emergency service calls.
- No regularly scheduled on-call rotation.
- Company events and family-inclusive gatherings.
Career Growth & Leadership Opportunity
Advanced Fire & Safety is expanding its operations and looking for individuals who want to grow alongside the business.
The selected candidate will initially focus on hands-on field service while learning the company's operations and building relationships with the existing team.
As the company grows, potential advancement opportunities include:
- Senior Fire Suppression Technician: Independently handle inspections, service, troubleshooting, and installations.
- Lead Technician / Trainer: Help onboard and train technicians while supporting technical quality and field operations.
- Operations Leadership: Take on broader responsibilities involving field service coordination, technician development, and operational management.
The company hopes to begin introducing training and leadership responsibilities within approximately the first year, with the potential to transition into a more operations-focused position over time.
This is a hands-on opportunity initially, making it an excellent fit for an experienced technician who enjoys fieldwork but wants a long-term path toward leadership.
Work Location & Travel
Advanced Fire & Safety operates out of Columbus, Nebraska, but candidates living in Omaha, Lincoln, or surrounding communities are encouraged to apply.
Technicians are provided a company service vehicle and can dispatch directly from their residence rather than reporting to the Columbus shop daily.
Travel throughout Nebraska and Iowa is required based on customer and service needs.
Why Join Advanced Fire & Safety?
- Join a growing, family-owned company where you're valued as an individual, not just a number.
- Enjoy a four-day workweek and no regularly scheduled on-call rotation.
- Work independently with a company vehicle and the ability to dispatch from home.
- Work directly with company ownership and have a voice in the company's future.
- Receive support for additional manufacturer certifications and technical development.
- Have the opportunity to grow into a leadership position as the company expands.
If you're an experienced commercial kitchen fire suppression technician looking for a company where you can build a long-term career and potentially grow into leadership, we'd like to hear from you.
