Benefits Segal AmeriCorps Education Award : $7,395.00 upon successful completion of position (pre‑tax) Weekly Living Allowance : $775.00 per week, fixed rate (pre‑tax) Relocation Allowance : $450.00 (one‑time lump sum with first paycheck) (pre‑tax) Student Loan Forbearance – if applicable (administered by MyAmeriCorps) Student Loan Interest Payments – if applicable (administered through MyAmeriCorps) Free Healthcare Coverage (opt in) Childcare Coverage (opt in) Description of Duties Assist parks with informed decision‑making regarding resource management considering current threats, impacts, and future conditions. Create and finalize park‑specific case studies highlighting coastal adaptation examples and develop accompanying StoryMaps. Compile and demonstrate existing tools and resources that support park‑specific needs. Assist with emerging park‑specific requests and studies (e.g., project design discussions, technical report reviews, data collection/processing, communication). Communicate and distribute information to parks through various mechanisms such as internal websites, ArcGIS Online maps, StoryMaps, webinars, and meetings. Support the collection of terrestrial LiDAR data at one or more parks to support ongoing modeling and visualization projects. Engage with staff across NPS and other federal agencies (USGS, NOAA, USACE, USFWS). Present projects to NPS staff at park, regional, and national levels, and potentially at broader conferences or gatherings. Deliverables Finalize/develop case study briefs, StoryMaps, and other science education materials focused on restoration, nature‑based solutions, and proactive management actions to increase resiliency at coastal parks. Create awareness of the RAD framework and the range of adaptation options available to parks. Update resource database listing and briefly describing relevant resources (documents, webinars/presentations, GIS and web‑based tools). Develop web content for the internal NPS site. Develop presentations for formal and informal meetings. Produce additional products as requested during engagement with parks and partners. Collect, process, manage, upload LiDAR data to IRMA, and create visualizations. Regularly participate in meetings with parks to build knowledge and contribute insights. Qualifications U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien. High school diploma or equivalency; if not yet completed, must obtain before using the education award. Provide information for eligibility and complete a National Service Criminal History Check and a separate government security background check. Availability to participate for the entire 52 weeks. Preferred Qualifications Self‑directed, independent, and team oriented; critical thinker with problem‑solving skills; attention to detail. Basic knowledge of sea level rise, coastal change, nature‑based solutions, ecosystem restoration, coastal processes, and hazards. Moderate GIS skills, verbal and written communication abilities, and experience developing outreach materials. Preferred technical training in restoration, sea level rise, coastal hazards, coastal engineering, coastal geology/geomorphology, oceanography, sediment transport, or hydrodynamic/sediment modeling. Position Setting Primarily office work at the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett, RI, with 1–3 trips to nearby coastal national parks and field locations. The office is in South County, surrounded by wildlife preserves, parks, forests, and sandy beaches. Travel by car is recommended. Housing Park housing is not available; the participant must find housing within the nearby area. Housing options include apartments, houses, and shared living spaces. Rent typically starts around $800–$1,200 per month. Vehicle and Driver License Requirements No need to drive a government vehicle. A personal vehicle is recommended. Orientation includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities. Access to free professional development webinars led by Conservation Legacy staff. Evaluation and Reporting Requirements Performance evaluated based on completion of required AmeriCorps hours, satisfactory assignment completion, and meeting other criteria communicated at term start. Reporting includes bi‑weekly timesheets, monthly accomplishment tracking, a mid‑term report, and a final report. Conservation Legacy is an equal‑opportunity employer.
