Industrial Material Handler (Afternoon & Night Shift)

Note: As a union-based employer, we are unable to guarantee any shift preference following initial training on day shift. Shift preference is granted by seniority. All candidates should expect to work afternoon shift or night shift at some point following initial training.

Pay Rate: $26 - $26.50 per hour

Position Overview:

Canton Drop Forge is seeking experienced Industrial Material Handlers to support our forging operations. These positions play a critical role in maintaining production flow by safely transporting steel, dies, tooling, and finished forgings throughout the forge using powered industrial trucks and other material handling equipment.

Successful candidates will be assigned to either a Production Operator or Forge Utility Operator position based on operational needs, qualifications, and experience. Both roles require working safely in a hot, fast-paced manufacturing environment while supporting continuous production and material movement. Both roles focus on material movement, production support, housekeeping, and communication across departments.

Responsibilities:

• Safely transport steel, dies, tooling, forgings, and production materials throughout the facility using powered industrial trucks.
• Supply production crews with materials needed to maintain continuous forging operations.
• Stage, organize, and replenish materials to support production efficiency.
• Load and unload furnaces while maintaining safe handling practices.
• Prepare production areas for upcoming shifts by staging tooling, steel, and equipment.
• Operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment in congested manufacturing environments.
• Communicate with production crews and supervisors to coordinate material movement.
• Assist with die changes, tooling movement, and general production support as required.
• Perform housekeeping duties to maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Follow all quality, safety, and operating procedures while working around hot materials, moving equipment, and overhead cranes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• 3+ years of powered industrial truck (forklift) experience
• Experience handling large, heavy, or oversized materials
• Previous experience in forging, steel manufacturing, foundry, heavy industrial, or similar manufacturing environments preferred
• Ability to safely work around hot materials and active production equipment
• Strong awareness of safe material handling practices
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and work as part of a production team
• Demonstrates commitment to safety, quality, and workmanship

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and climbing throughout the shift
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with lifting devices
• Ability to safely operate forklifts throughout an entire shift
• Ability to work in high-temperature industrial environments during all seasons
• Ability to wear required PPE and work around moving equipment and heavy machinery
