Teen Programs Coordinator Position Description Hiring Timeline Note: Phone screenings will begin for qualified applicants after Labor Day. POSITION MISSION: Ensure that PEAK teens and Leaders in Training (LTs) have the awareness, confidence, skills, and tools they need to reach their full potential by implementing the successful design and delivery of discovery, experience, and project-based programs that integrate with, and support a model of continual, year-round learning. REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS The Teen Programs Coordinator reports to the Leaders in Training Programs Manager and works collaboratively with other program and administrative staff. POSITION AVAILABILITY POSITION AVAILABILITYThe Teen Programs Coordinator is a full-time exempt position with a schedule which regularly includes weekend and evening hours and four overnight trips a year. BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Under the guidance of the Leaders in Training Programs Manager, develop Milwaukee-based programming for our participants grades 9-12. Serve as lead facilitator for high school programs, workshops, and leadership labs, ensuring progression from year to year and season to season. Support the preparation, design, and execution of programs, retreats, and events, including curriculum review, logistics, materials assembly, LT & guardian communications, etc. Support the Leaders in Training internship program year-round and serve as the intern lead in Milwaukee Camps in the summer. Serve as main facilitator for Teen participant recruitment activities. Coordinate activities and reservations with community partners. Attend specialized overnight trips and expeditions including Mindful Me, College Service & Learning Tour, Senior Trip, and Travel Camp. Transport participants in PEAK vehicles. Serve as an integral member of the summer Day Camp leadership team, specifically through LT intern support and guidance. Must be comfortable working in the office and program center situated in the Milwaukee County Park and community we serve. You are highly energetic with an ability to work independently and maintain a strong commitment to teamwork; you have the ability to confidently set and enforce clear expectations and boundaries with youth participants and staff. You are calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff. You are highly organized with the ability to plan for multifaceted programming effectively and efficiently. A familiarity with Google Drive and client management databases is a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) experience in client-focused conversation is a plus. Experience supporting young people navigate through complex emotions. Comfort in talking through the complex emotions or behaviors with the guardians of the young person. CERTIFICATIONS Must be able to pass PEAK’s motor vehicle background check and driver training and safely drive/transport adults and children in PEAK vehicles, including a 12-passenger van. Must be at least 19 and have a high school diploma or GED to apply. CPR and First Aid certification preferred. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience; experience in teaching and facilitating classes, trainings, and/or workshops. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Competitive salary, commensurate with experience (typical starting range for a coordinator is $40,600-$50,750). Generous PTO package (starts at 17 vacation days & 6 personal/sick days, 10 organizational holidays, 3 personal holidays, and 2 weeks of organizational shut down each year). PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS The mental and physical requirements and work environment conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Understanding that summer programming and overnight trips are full days and can be demanding with limited time for breaks. Summer activities are often loud, involving many people talking, yelling, cheering, etc., in indoor and outdoor settings. The summer programming environment is often hot, rainy, with bugs or other wildlife. Staff must be able to work outside in a nature setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. Ability to travel locally in Milwaukee to facilitate programming. Ability to attend all overnight trips, 2-4 nights depending on the trip. Understanding that summer programming for PEAK is extensive and multifaceted and willingness to be present and fully engaged during this critical time. All PEAK Initiative properties, including Lake Valley Camp and the Milwaukee Program Center, are substance-free environments. Smoking, vaping, alcohol consumption, and the use of illicit drugs are strictly prohibited on all property regardless of whether or not staff are on break.
