Registered Nurse - Acute Inpatient Dialysis

Job Title Registered Nurse - Acute Inpatient Dialysis Location & Schedule Unity Hospital. Hours per week: 40. Schedule: Monday‑Friday days/evenings and 2 Saturdays per month. Department Overview Our Dialysis Department offers a full range of treatment options to patients with chronic kidney disease, caring for adults from diverse backgrounds. Patients receive 2–3 treatments per week, 3–5 hours each, and may be on an ongoing basis or transition to home dialysis, transplant, or recovery. Summary As a Registered Nurse (RN), you’re the engine and heart of patient care, making a positive difference in patients’ lives, their families, and visitors through courtesy, kindness, respect and compassion. Responsibilities Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the patient, utilizing appropriate data (physical, psychological, educational, risk‑screen) appropriate for the patient’s age. Demonstrates clinical judgment in responding to priority patient needs. Communicates and documents assessment of patient with the interdisciplinary team, utilizing all available resources to meet patient and family needs. Develops and documents individualized plan of care, treatment, and services; includes interdisciplinary health team as needed. Demonstrates effective communication with patient/family and interdisciplinary team. Provides care, treatment and services in collaboration with interdisciplinary health team. Maintains an appropriate nurse‑patient relationship. Complies with organizational policies, procedures and protocols, including safety, medication administration and documentation. Initiates and documents education plan for patient and family based on identified learning. Evaluates, communicates and documents patient responses to care, revises plan of care based on ongoing evaluations. Ensures patient and family receives/understands education/training using the teach‑back method; documents appropriately. Leads the care delivery team through effective communication, collaboration and leadership. Assumes responsibility and accountability on the unit/patient care team. Delegates appropriate responsibilities to assigned nurses and ancillary staff. Manages job‑related stressors and provides constructive feedback during inter‑departmental relations. Participates in problem‑solving activities at the unit level. Provides input regarding protocols, policies and procedures to immediate supervisor. Provides training/precepting for new team members on the unit. Demonstrates knowledge of evidence‑based practice and participates in performance improvement and clinical research utilization (CRU). Completes at least one CRU form for submission to Nursing Research Department from a U.S. research article within the last 5 years. Required Qualifications Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required); Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Registered Nurse license in New York State. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Licenses / Certifications BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (AHA). RN – Registered Nurse – New York State Education Department (NYSED). Physical Requirements Exerting 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
