General Summary:

The Development & Alumni Relations Director is responsible for supporting fundraising, donor engagement, alumni relations, community outreach, and advancement initiatives for the Department of Institutional Advancement. This position plays a key role in strengthening relationships with alumni, donors, community partners, tribal organizations, and supporters of the institution while assisting with the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, special events, scholarship development, and donor stewardship activities.

The Development & Alumni Relations Director works collaboratively across campus departments to enhance alumni engagement, increase philanthropic support, and promote the mission, vision, and values of the institution.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Alumni Relations & Engagement

  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with alumni, former students, and community supporters.

  • Coordinate alumni outreach initiatives, networking opportunities, reunions, and engagement activities.

  • Assist with maintaining and updating alumni records and databases.

  • Create and distribute alumni communications including newsletters, social media content, announcements, and promotional materials.

  • Develop and/or support alumni affinity groups, mentoring opportunities, and volunteer engagement programs.

  • Promote alumni participation in institutional events, fundraising campaigns, and community initiatives.

Development & Fundraising

  • Assist in planning and implementing annual fundraising campaigns and donor engagement strategies.

  • Assist in supporting donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition efforts.

  • Conduct prospect research to identify potential donors, sponsors, grant opportunities, and community partnerships.

  • Assist with scholarship fundraising initiatives and donor correspondence.

  • Support grant-related research and advancement initiatives as assigned.

Events & Community Outreach

  • Coordinate and assist with fundraising events, alumni activities, donor receptions, and community engagement events.

  • Collaborate with campus departments and community partners to support Institutional Advancement initiatives.

  • Represent the institution at community events, meetings, and outreach activities as appropriate.

  • Assist with event logistics including scheduling, vendor coordination, volunteer management, promotion, and follow-up.

Communications & Marketing

  • Collaborate with marketing staff to develop marketing and communication materials that support advancement and alumni relations goals.

  • Collaborate with marketing staff to promote fundraising campaigns and institutional success stories.

  • Assist with the management of content related to alumni and donor engagement across digital platforms and social media channels.

  • Ensure messaging reflects the institution’s mission, culture, and values.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain organized records, reports, calendars, and files related to advancement activities.

  • Assist with budget tracking, reporting, and data management.

  • Prepare reports and presentations related to fundraising, alumni engagement, and event outcomes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Department of Institutional Advancement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects and events simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, donor stewardship, and alumni engagement strategies.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism and discretion.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management systems.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, Native American cultures and communities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, education, or related field preferred.

  • Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.

  • Two (2) years of experience in fundraising, alumni relations, event coordination, marketing, communications, customer relations, or related field preferred.

  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit organizations, tribal organizations, or community engagement environments is desirable.
