Volunteer - Hospice

Summary of Position:


The Volunteer – Hospice role provides support services for hospice patients and their families according to their experience and training and in compliance with organization policies.

Qualifications

Education:

• High school graduate or GED preferred

Experience:

• Previous volunteer experience preferred.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with their own spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.

• Ability to work within the hospice interdisciplinary group.


Certifications/Licensure:

Valid California or Nevada Driver’s license (depending on state of employee’s residence) or ability to obtain prior to start date.

• Normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate while in the office.

• Occasional travel to various health system locations.


• Travel to the private residence of patients.


Essential Functions

1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

2. Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group amid various settings: home care; respite; inpatient, bereavement and/or administrative; office duties.

3. Serves the patient and family/caregiver under guidance of Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager or as a part of the administrative team.

4. Serves as substitute family/caregiver in the home performing activities that the volunteer has been prepared for and has agreed to perform. The volunteer may do homemaker chores, run errands, and provide respite care as well.

5. Documents as educated and instructed maintaining confidentiality.

6. Provides availability on a regular basis and/or keeping with the patient and family/caregiver needs.

7. Participates in volunteer support groups and/or educational in-services.

8. Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team.


9. Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.

10. Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings, as appropriate.

11. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
