CDL Truck Driver

Southway Crane & Rigging, Inc. is looking to add experienced full‑time CDL truck drivers to our growing Branch in Birmingham, AL. Reports to: Branch Manager. Summary: Candidate must possess a minimum of three years of commercial driving experience, pass a background check and drug test, and perform a skills verification test on site before hire. Responsibilities Load and unload cargo. Record amount and type of cargo being delivered. Take orders for new deliveries and drive long distances. Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows. Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road. Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion. Follow all applicable traffic laws. Inspect trailer before and after trip and record any defects. Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs. Keep a log of activities. Report serious mechanical problems to appropriate personnel. Keep truck, equipment, clean and in good working order. Qualifications Current state issued Class A CDL Driver's License (No Automatic Endorsement). Minimum three years of commercial driving experience. Ability to interpret, read manuals, and write reports in English. Mechanical and analytical skills preferred. Ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines. Ability to provide proper hand signals to crane and truck operators. Ability to verbally communicate safety issues to customers and coworkers at job site. Ability to work at heights and use all PPE required for fall protection correctly. Ability to employ physical movements associated with heavy work, including bending, stooping, lifting (up to 75 lbs.), twisting, crawling, climbing, squatting, kneeling, sitting and standing. Sight sufficient for operating a motor vehicle, inspecting equipment, and completing paperwork. Hearing sufficient for telephone contact and interpersonal communication.
