Sr. Principal Product Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Principal Product Manager based in the United States.

This is a senior product leadership opportunity focused on shaping the strategy and evolution of a large-scale Developer Platform.
You will treat infrastructure and internal developer capabilities as products, creating intuitive, scalable, and self-service experiences for engineering teams.
The role combines long-term product strategy with hands-on leadership across cloud services, APIs, deployment systems, tooling, and developer experience.
You will partner closely with engineering, architecture, security, design, and product leaders to drive adoption and organizational alignment.
A key focus will be reducing developer friction through golden paths, service catalogs, documentation, and modern platform capabilities.
You will establish measurable outcomes around productivity, adoption, reliability, and support deflection while continuously improving the platform.
This role is ideal for an experienced product leader who can influence at executive levels, lead high-performing teams, and translate complex technical challenges into business outcomes.

Accountabilities

• Define and own a multi-quarter product strategy and roadmap for foundational cloud services, platform capabilities, deployment systems, and developer tooling.
• Transition internal infrastructure from reactive, ticket-based support toward a proactive platform-as-a-product model built around self-service experiences, paved roads, and service catalogs.
• Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Security, Design, and other product leaders to ensure platform capabilities are scalable, extensible, secure, and aligned with organizational needs.
• Champion improvements to APIs, SDKs, sandbox environments, developer portals, documentation, and related tools that reduce cognitive load and accelerate developer productivity.
• Conduct developer research and use product usage data to understand friction points, uncover root causes, and translate feedback into actionable product priorities.
• Establish governance frameworks, KPI dashboards, and success metrics covering platform adoption, developer productivity, support deflection, reliability, and other relevant outcomes.
• Act as a strategic voice for the internal developer platform, aligning stakeholders around priorities, communicating the platform vision, and driving adoption across the organization.
• Balance technical debt, scalability, reliability, and new feature development while ensuring roadmap decisions support long-term business and customer outcomes.
• Build compelling product narratives and communicate business value, technical priorities, and product opportunities to senior executives and cross-functional leadership.
• Drive organizational change by introducing new ways of working, improving platform processes, and maintaining accountability for measurable customer and business results.
• Lead and develop a high-performing product management organization, fostering strong collaboration, clear ownership, continuous learning, and a customer-focused culture.

Requirements

• 12+ years of product management experience, including significant experience building large-scale cloud service platforms and complex, mission-critical software systems.
• Demonstrated experience with cloud-native platforms and large-scale systems, ideally including commerce, usage-based, or metered products operating at significant scale.
• 10+ years of people management experience, with a proven ability to recruit, develop, retain, and lead high-performing product management teams.
• Strong expertise in platform-as-a-product methodologies, including user research, product strategy, roadmap development, KPI definition, and internal platform adoption.
• Deep technical fluency with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, microservices, CI/CD, observability, APIs, and modern developer tooling.
• Proven ability to identify developer pain points and translate them into scalable solutions such as developer portals, golden paths, service catalogs, self-service tools, and documentation platforms.
• Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and clearly articulate product strategy, business value, and technical priorities.
• Track record of establishing ambitious goals, delivering measurable outcomes, and taking end-to-end ownership of customer and business results.
• Experience leading organizations through significant transformation and navigating complex environments while maintaining both strategic perspective and attention to execution details.
• Highly data-driven, outcome-oriented, and analytical, with strong problem-solving skills and a customer-obsessed approach to product development.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent professional experience.
• Willingness to travel approximately 15% for customer meetings, team gatherings, and relationship-building activities.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• This position is remote within the United States but is not eligible for candidates located in the Bay Area or Seattle area.

Benefits

• Competitive compensation, with estimated base salary ranges varying by location:
  • $233,100–$259,000 for Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
  • $246,780–$274,200 for New York, New Jersey, Washington State, and California outside the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • $274,140–$304,600 for the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
