Make a real difference for students with visual impairments as you help shape their educational journey for the 2026–2027 school year. This exciting contract role offers the chance to work closely with a diverse caseload across multiple campuses in the New Orleans area, providing expert support and advocacy to ensure every student’s success.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and visually impaired teaching certification (required)
• At least 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
• Skilled in Braille instruction and assistive technology for the visually impaired
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Proven track record of working independently and managing multiple priorities
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred)
• Current Louisiana DOE certification
• Ability to travel daily between assigned school sites
• Must meet required background checks, including a drug screen and district fingerprinting

Essential Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct instruction and support for visually impaired students, tailoring materials and resources to meet individual needs
• Serve as a key liaison with the Louisiana Department of Education and regularly coordinate with general classroom teachers
• Acquire and adapt textbooks and specialized materials for student use
• Provide in-service training to staff, ensuring students receive the appropriate accommodations
• Maintain clear documentation and communication with all stakeholders
• Perform additional duties as directed by the Director of IDEA

This position provides a fulfilling, itinerant schedule of approximately 35 hours per week (7 hours per day with a 30-minute lunch), and the satisfaction of knowing you’re building a barrier-free environment for students across the region.
