Sr. Clinical Engineer

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Senior Clinical Engineer for its OTTAVA robotic surgical system team in Cincinnati. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and validate next-generation minimally invasive surgical instruments while partnering with physicians to understand clinical needs and guide product development.

Responsibilities

• Apply clinical and design control expertise to collaborate on discovery, development, and validation of new robotic surgical instruments
• Partner with physicians and clinical users to evaluate device performance and integrate feedback into product iterations
• Establish customer requirements and clinical inputs to translate into engineering design specifications
• Develop clinical workflows, conduct risk assessments, and propose hazard mitigations
• Write and execute Design Validation protocols and testing plans compliant with FDA requirements

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Biomedical, Mechanical) with 5+ years medical device experience
• Master's degree plus 4 years or PhD plus 2 years medical device experience accepted
• Experience gathering clinical feedback and identifying unmet clinical needs with physicians
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across R&D, product management, human factors teams
• Expertise designing and conducting pre-clinical engineering studies for product safety and performance
• Proficiency in clinical risk assessment, harm analysis, and Design Validation strategy
• Ability to synthesize technical and clinical data to inform design decisions
