About the RoleThe Director of Tax is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing SimpliSafe’s global tax strategy, operations, and compliance. This leader will direct the development and execution of tax planning initiatives, ensure compliance with domestic and international tax laws, and safeguard the company’s tax position as the business continues to innovate and scale.The Tax Director will work closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Operations, and other cross-functional partners to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong strategic judgment, and the leadership capability to drive operational excellence, financial efficiency, and compliance.What You’ll DoLead the global tax function, including strategy, planning, compliance, reporting, audit management, and risk mitigationOversee the preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740the accurate and timely preparation, review, and approval of global tax payments, corporate income tax returns, and related filingsOversee sales and use tax compliance, property tax, VAT, excise taxes, and other indirect tax obligationsLead tax audits and examinations for direct and indirect taxesAdvise on the tax implications of business activities, new products, entity structures, and strategic initiativesManage relationships with external tax advisors to supplement internal capabilities and ensure best-in-class supportOversee tax planning and projects, including transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions, and tax-efficient financing strategiesProactively monitor evolving tax legislation and communicate potential impacts and opportunities to executive leadershipManage the processes for tax registrations and renewals working collaboratively with other internal compliance teamsDrive automation and process improvement by leveraging technology to enable compliance and strategic tax insightsLead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across both direct and indirect tax functionsPartner cross-functionally with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, FP&A, HR, and other business stakeholders to support operational and strategic alignmentPresent tax updates, risks, and planning strategies to executive leadership and, when required, the Audit CommitteeWhat You’ll BringBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred10+ years of progressive tax experience within Big 4, corporate tax departments, or a combination of bothStrong technical knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax regulations; international tax experience (specifically the UK) a plusProven leadership experience with the ability to develop and motivate high- performing teamsStrong communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax concepts for diverse stakeholdersExcellent analytical and strategic thinking abilitiesA hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levelsWhat Values You’ll ShareCustomer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.No Ego - Maintaining a “no job too small” attitude, and an open, inclusive and humble style.One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.What We OfferA mission- and values-driven culture and a safe, inclusive environment where you can build, grow and thrive A comprehensive total rewards package that supports your wellness and provides security for SimpliSafers and their families (For more information on our total rewards please click here)Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home. We use a market-based compensation approach to set our target annual base pay ranges and make adjustments annually. We carefully tailor individual compensation packages, including base pay, taking into consideration employees’ job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and other relevant business factors.
