Position Summary Senior Nursing Attendant Unit 4800 Day Shift. Job Responsibilities Assemble O2 and suction set‑ups. Assists with admission, transfer and discharge of patients: Orients patient to the hospital environment as outlined in the Patient Assessment Database, provides toileting supplies, assists patients in removing clothing, completes property check lists, safeguards personal property through security, assists in patient transfers by gathering belongings and moving the patient, prepares bedside units for patient arrival, assists patients to dress and pack belongings, and escorts patients as necessary until they have left the building. Conducts patient rounds every two hours for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety and personal needs; answers call lights and responds to patient needs promptly. Provides basic hygiene to patients: bathing, PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, shaving, and assists with bedpan, urinal or commode. Prepares patients for meals by clearing overbed tables, positioning patients for eating or tube feedings, preparing utensils and food items, feeding patients, and monitoring tube feedings; notifies RN of near‑completion of feeding bags. Performs and assists with simple treatments: Sitz bath, binder application, removal and reapplication of SCD wraps, ACE bandage application, limb soaks, simple dressing changes (normal saline), pressure ulcer care (normal saline, hydrocolloid dressing), colostomy care on established patients, and application of ointments and creams as directed by RN. Performs enema procedures: fleets, phosphosoda, oil‑retention, soaps‑suds, tap water, and Harris drip. Collects urine, stool and sputum specimens as directed by RN. Informs RN of audible clinical alarms (IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, bedside monitors). Assists with removal and security of patient personal items as indicated on the pre‑op check list. Assists with assembly of traction apparatus. Assists with moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients. Changes linen in accordance with policy and as necessary. Takes and electronically records vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration) at least twice daily and as directed by RN; reports temperatures above 99°F or below 97°F. Weighs patients and records weights on admission, weekly and as directed by RN. Measures and records oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric and other drainage onto I&O record; calculates 8‑hour totals and empties drainage bags. Documents safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy and direction. Performs control testing and records urine dipstick results per unit policy. Reports observed changes in patient condition to RN. Responds to and meets patient/family needs and customer concerns promptly with compassion; establishes effective, caring relationships with staff and other team members. Performs post‑mortem care. Attends staff meetings and reviews/signs minutes of meetings not attended. Maintains competence through in‑service and educational programs. Maintains a safe and uncluttered patient room environment, removing excess furniture, supplies, and equipment; assists with supply and equipment management per department standards. Maintains cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries as assigned. Performs other duties such as errands, relieving other units, transporting stretchers, and assisting team members as directed. Performs duties aligned with mission and values of the organization. Measuring and recording blood sugar using a glucose meter. Performing EKG and applying cardiac leads. Performing venous phlebotomy. Discontinuing Foley catheters. Observing IV sites for infiltration, securing catheters, and removing peripheral IV catheters as directed by RN. Administering NG, gastrostomy and jejunostomy feeds; verifying feeding rates, changing bags, checking for residuals, establishing patency, and reporting deviations from normal. Assisting physician with procedures such as spinal tap, paracentesis, thoracentesis, bone marrow and other specialized treatments. Providing patient care to respiratory patients per unit protocols: tracheostomy care, tracheal suctioning, oral suctioning, endotracheal tube suctioning, and pulse oximetry readings. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma required. 1+ year(s) of relevant experience. Strong customer service and communication skills. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay or other compensation.
