Job Description Athletic Director Position Summary The Athletic Director is actively engaged in the Bayview‑Hunters Point community, embraces the mission and values of KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory, and is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and managing supervision for all athletics events involving KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory. The AD operates in compliance with state regulations, KIPP Northern California leadership, section and state athletics governing bodies, and local regulatory agencies. The AD supports the principal in implementing the school’s Cultural Vision and fosters a culture of high expectations. They also build strong partnerships with families and the community, and create a safe environment that welcomes, reflects, and supports the diversity of the student population. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications – Athletic Director & Teacher Experience / Licensing / Education At least 2 to 3 years of High School Head Coaching experience (required). Valid CA Class C license and current insurance coverage. Safe driving record (DMV report will be requested). Bachelor’s Degree (major in kinesiology or dance preferred). Experience in administration. Experience in a comparable high school setting. Hold a B.A./B.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution. Eligibility requirements Hold a valid teaching credential. Eligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit. Eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit. Knowledge / Skills required Superior communication, organizational skills, and ability to work with diverse groups. Administrative experience and proficiency using Google Suite (email, calendars, Docs). Ability to coach coaches and support their growth and development. Professional communication via phone and email. Commitment to KIPP mission and vision; anti‑racism commitment. Strong content area knowledge and relationship building with students, families, and communities. Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangouts, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.). Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology (Zoom, Nearpod). Essential Functions and Responsibilities Organizes and administers the program of interscholastic athletics. Maintains a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment that incorporates Restorative Practices and Social‑Emotional Learning. Implements culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe environment for all students to learn and achieve. Communicates regularly with staff, students, families, and stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships. Attends and engages in weekly professional development and communities of practice. Athletic Director Supervises Fall Sports – Girls Volleyball (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach); Cross Country (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach). Winter Sports – Girls Basketball (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach); Boys Basketball (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach). Spring Sports – Baseball (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach); Track & Field (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach); Boys Volleyball (1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach). Coaching Staff Management Trains, hires, and professionally develops coaches; facilitates recruitment, selection, supervision, and support. Establishes and executes a program of professional development for coaching staff. Manages external coaches’ HR items and pay (onboarding, timesheets, compliance). Assists coaches in developing academic interventions in alignment with KIPP policies. Works with head coaches to schedule all interscholastic athletics events, practices, and matches the competitive level of the teams. Administrative Responsibilities Manages all administrative aspects of athletic programming; distributes and collects uniforms and equipment; establishes supervision policies for athletic facilities; coordinates with outside groups and city for off‑site rentals; adheres to federal, state, league, and school regulations. Develops and updates the Department Handbook; keeps records of all contests and performance records. Prepares and administers the Athletics Department budget and fundraising efforts; facilitates timely submission of reports, forms, and fees to CIF, CCS, and PSAL. Ensures Title IX compliance and gender equity; approves and assists in planning and execution of trips; coordinates school‑provided student transportation. Represents the school at sectional and league meetings; develops equitable systems for schedules, travel, and program access. Student and Community Engagement Plans and executes seasonal events to celebrate student achievements. Updates and communicates athletics news via calendars, social media, and website platforms. Runs systems for academic reports and reviews, communicating eligibility to coaches and families. Promotes teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, courtesy, academic excellence, and adherence to conduct rules. Represents the school in exemplary fashion; manages disciplinary systems within each team and the department. Professional Development Continues to develop professionally, learning best practices of athletic administration through NIAAA and other organizations. Training and Safety Promotes health and safety guidelines per KIPP King and league regulations. Obtains/maintains required NFHS and First Aid/CPR certifications; completes safety training (NFHS Learn, SafeSchools). Academic Achievement & College Readiness Monitors student‑athlete academic progress, eligibility, and graduation readiness. Partners with counselors, teachers, and families to provide support. Promotes a culture where academics come first and athletics serves as a pathway to college and career success. Student Recruitment & Enrollment Partner with school leadership to use athletics for student recruitment, retention, and community engagement. Builds relationships with local schools, youth sports programs, and community organizations to expand participation. Supports recruitment events, family outreach, and summer engagement opportunities. Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands Physical: Navigate school campuses, attend meetings; occasional lifting of equipment 20–40 lbs. Mental: Manage deadlines and stress; analyze problems, concentrate for long periods. Environmental: Gym or field environments will vary; may involve interruptions and distractions; adhere to health and safety guidelines.
