Facility Facility: Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station, TX Department Department: Acute Care Float Pool Shift/Status Shift/Status: PRN Schedule Schedule: Flexible scheduling based on department needs Acute Care Float Pool Patient Population: Adult acute care patients across multiple hospital units Float Expectations: RNs may float to various acute care units based on hospital staffing and patient care needs. The Acute Care Float Pool provides experienced RNs with the opportunity to support multiple nursing units throughout Baylor Scott & White Hospital – College Station. Float Pool RNs are expected to adapt quickly to different unit environments, patient populations, workflows, and care teams while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care. This position is ideal for an RN who enjoys variety, works well independently, and is comfortable adjusting to changing patient care needs. Float Pool RNs use strong clinical judgment and nursing knowledge to provide care across appropriate acute care settings while collaborating with unit leadership and interdisciplinary teams. PRN Requirements PRN RNs are required to work a minimum of 2 shifts per 6-week period. RNs must be able to float to assigned units based on staffing and operational needs. Full orientation is provided and includes an in-person orientation week. Successful Float Pool RNs demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to quickly integrate into different unit environments. Job Summary As an RN Float, you are vital in healthcare, coordinating patient care based on our nursing model. You assess patients, plan personalized care, and evaluate responses to health issues. You keep patients safe by understanding their needs and the healthcare setting for smoother transitions. You delegate interventions to team members based on guidelines, patient condition, and team abilities. Your professionalism and experience help you make important recommendations that impact patient outcomes. Essential Functions Of The Role Focus on patient and family needs. Develop and adjust nursing care plans for desired outcomes. Create a safe environment for patients, families, and staff while addressing emotional and physical needs. Adapt nursing care to the unique needs, conditions, and preferences of patients across different acute care settings. Provide patient and family education and evaluate and document learning needs and progress. Work collaboratively with unit teams and interdisciplinary partners to implement individualized care plans. Adapt quickly to different units, workflows, patient populations, and care teams. Prioritize and manage multiple patient care needs while maintaining safety and quality. Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and established guidelines. Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate members of the healthcare team. Utilize available resources effectively and seek assistance when needed. Maintain flexibility and professionalism when responding to changing staffing and patient care needs. Continually seek professional development opportunities and contribute to a positive team environment. Key Success Factors Thorough knowledge of nursing and patient care standards and procedures. Knowledge of relevant laws, rules, regulations, nursing standards, and accreditation requirements. Understanding of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention, and disease management. Strong clinical judgment, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving abilities. Ability to adapt quickly to different patient populations, unit environments, and care teams. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently while maintaining effective collaboration with unit leadership and interdisciplinary teams. Flexibility and willingness to float to different acute care areas based on operational & patient needs. Ability to prioritize & organize care in a fast‑paced environment. Good general computer skills, including electronic medical documentation and other healthcare information systems.
