Trailer Technician

Job Title Mobile Technician Department Maintenance Location Westfield, Massachusetts, United States of America Job Type Full time Job Summary Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic services of tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. The role may involve outdoor work, working overnight or on weekends, and overtime; full‑time attendance is required. Key Responsibilities Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks, including tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on trailer chassis and sub‑frames. Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard. Operate the assigned service truck professionally and keep the unit clean and well stocked. Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures. Document damage to company equipment for subrogation of repair costs. Use a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform minor chassis, frame, and bracket repairs. Punch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs, ensuring all holes are sealed and watertight. Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections under the supervision of a certified technician as required. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs. Demonstrated skills through education, certifications, military, or other experiences. Clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines. Ability to supply basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program. Willingness to work outdoors in the elements. Availability to work multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed. Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent with up to 1 year of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑tire maintenance and repair, or a comparable combination of education and experience, or military equivalent. At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes. Welding certification. Forklift certification and experience. EPA Section 608 certification and refrigeration license. Effective communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Team‑oriented and independent work capability. Proficient computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office suite. Efficient time and resource management. Physical ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to wear appropriate protective gear/PPE. Compensation The starting pay range for this position is $25.81 – $38.72 per hour and may vary based on skills, education, experience, and geographic location. The role may be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volume as per company plans.
