Requisition No: 877689 Working Title: ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST I - 37010878 This position is located in Jacksonville, FL Position Overview and Responsibilities: This is an entry-level professional position in the Permitting Program responsible for permitting activities related to the Air Program and duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Reviews and evaluates environmental resource permit applications for conformance to state and federal rules and regulations. Produces basic permits and/or documents and requests for additional information, when required, that are consistent with prescribed rules and department guidance and procedures. Performs site inspections, as necessary, in support of permit application reviews and evaluations. Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of required data and system information into agency databases and Oculus. Provides technical assistance to the compliance assurance program. Provides regulatory assistance, such as outreach, permitting determinations and exemptions, to permittee and/or company representatives, other department programs, delegated local programs, and other interested parties. Participates in training activities as required. Performs related work as required by supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the environmental or natural sciences. Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures. Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical reports and supporting documentation. Ability to prepare technical reports. Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs. Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and leadership. Ability to interact with customers in a tactful and courteous manner. Ability to cross-train into multiple regulatory programs. Ability to utilize positive problem-solving techniques. Ability to meet established performance standards as identified in the district performance standards document. Minimum Qualifications: A t least 4 years of verifiable related experience. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis Travel Valid Driver License Position of Special Trust Requirement: This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility.
