Surgical Tech, Certified

Summary Under the direction of a physician or Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist uses surgical knowledge to assist in preparation and care of surgical patients, maintaining a sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The role requires knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and surgical procedures to support operative care and ensure quality patient outcomes. Responsibilities Prepares and stages the surgical environment and operating room. Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment needed for procedures. Stages the sterile field with instruments, supplies, and medications. Assists with draping and establishing the sterile field, gowning and gloving the team. Performs manually dexterous tasks under the direction of the attending surgeon. Prepares, labels, and hands off specimens as appropriate. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization; assists with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping the OR for the next patient. Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices. Precepts entry‑level staff, students, and orients new colleagues as assigned. Qualifications Other information: This position is open to entry‑level candidates. Required Graduate from a Surgical Technology program. National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting certification (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Education Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technician program. Experience 6 months preferred. Certification Current Surgical Technician Certification with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required. Individuals hired prior to August 1, 2007 and who graduated from a program that was not recognized by the NBSTSA at the time of their graduation are exempt from the certification requirement.
