We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and dedicated Staff Accountant to join our Finance Department and help support our mission through sound financial management and accountability.

Job Overview:
The Staff Accountant provides accounting and financial support to the Fiscal Director and the management team. This position is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing and posting journal entries, assisting with financial reporting, managing participant funds accounting, supporting budgeting and audit functions, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and organizational policies.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Prepare and post monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries and accruals.
• Maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
• Maintain the fixed assets ledger.
• Research, track, and resolve accounting discrepancies and issues.

Budgeting & Analysis

• Assist in developing and monitoring organizational budgets in collaboration with department leaders.
• Support financial planning and forecasting activities.
• Generate and maintain financial reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Compliance & Auditing

• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Prepare documentation and schedules requested by auditors.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and organizational policies.
• Support timely tax filings and regulatory reporting requirements.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
• Monitor financial transactions and ensure proper documentation.

Participant Funds Management

• Manage and oversee the disbursement and accounting of participant funds.
• Provide financial accounting information to participants and families as required.
• Maintain complete and accurate participant financial records.

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience preferred.
• Experience in the human services or nonprofit sector preferred.
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks and general ledger accounting systems.

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and tax compliance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage in accordance with agency policy.
• Ability to travel locally as needed.
