Substitute Food Service Worker

An ESS substitute food service worker supports the preparation and service of meals to students in a clean, safe, and efficient school nutrition environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food in accordance with district menus and portion guidelines
• Serve students efficiently during high-volume meal service periods
• Operate the district Point-of-Sale (POS) system to record student meals in compliance with federal meal accountability requirements. No cash handling required.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary food preparation and service area
• Follow all food safety and safe food handling procedures
• Provide positive and professional interaction with students and staff
• Perform duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Lead or Food Services supervisor
• Assist with basic food preparation, service line setup, and cleanup
• Store, utilize, and dispose of food and supplies following federal, state, local, and district regulations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Food Handler's Card (or ability to obtain)
• Willingness to obtain State Food Safety Manager Certification
• TB clearance and background clearance as required
• Ability to work in a high-volume school meal service environment while maintaining food safety standards
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions from Food Services staff and adapt to different school sites
