The University of Virginia’s Medical Services unit is seeking a Registered Nurse 2. Registered Nurse 2 employees plan and provide professional nursing services and patient care in outpatient settings, ensuring compliance with physician orders and following established nursing processes, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. They exercise judgment and decision‑making in their daily work and operate somewhat independently according to established protocols. Responsibilities Assess patients using nursing skills to evaluate vital signs, breath sounds, and any specific observations needed. Perform specific therapeutic interventions that assist medical evaluation. Read and synthesize information from patients’ files—including medical histories, prescribed medications, vital sign readings, and clinical observations—to understand patients’ conditions, determine care priorities, and prepare test requisitions per physicians’ specifications. Communicate patient status and changes in condition as appropriate, collaborating with a nursing supervisor to address complex issues. Supervise Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science degree, an Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or a Diploma in Nursing. Experience: Two years of experience as an RN. Emergency room or ambulatory care experience is typical. Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. About The Position The anticipated hiring range for this position is $38–$43 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The job requires sitting or standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending, stooping, traveling one to two miles per day, climbing stairs, and reaching overhead. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and legible writing; ability to lift, push, or pull 20–50 pounds may be required.
