Position Summary

A prestigious luxury hotel is seeking an experienced and highly detail-oriented Housekeeping Manager – Public Spaces to oversee the cleanliness, presentation, maintenance coordination, and overall appearance of all public areas throughout the property.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining the hotel's luxury standards and ensuring an impeccable environment for guests, visitors, and employees. The Public Spaces Housekeeping Manager will lead a team responsible for the daily care and presentation of the hotel's lobby, corridors, elevators, public restrooms, restaurants, bars, meeting and event spaces, recreational facilities, and other guest-facing areas.

Key Responsibilities

Public Spaces Housekeeping Operations

• Oversee the daily cleaning, presentation, and upkeep of all hotel public spaces.
• Maintain exceptional cleanliness and presentation throughout the lobby, entrances, corridors, elevators, stairwells, public restrooms, restaurants, lounges, bars, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and recreational facilities.
• Conduct frequent property walkthroughs and detailed inspections to ensure consistent luxury standards.
• Develop and implement daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning schedules.
• Ensure public spaces remain immaculate throughout all operating hours, including peak guest traffic periods.
• Oversee specialized cleaning of marble, stone, wood, glass, metal, upholstery, carpeting, and other luxury finishes.
• Coordinate deep-cleaning projects, floor care, carpet maintenance, and preventative cleaning programs.
• Maintain appropriate staffing coverage for high-traffic areas, special events, and changing business levels.
• Respond immediately to cleanliness concerns, spills, unexpected conditions, and guest requests.

Luxury Service & Quality Standards

• Ensure public spaces consistently reflect the presentation and service standards of a premier luxury hotel.
• Maintain an exceptional eye for detail, ensuring furniture, fixtures, décor, and amenities are properly presented.
• Establish inspection procedures that reinforce consistency and accountability.
• Support compliance with Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond, brand, and internal luxury quality standards , as applicable.
• Ensure discreet, professional cleaning practices that minimize disruption to the guest experience.
• Monitor guest feedback and proactively address opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with hotel leadership to maintain a refined, welcoming, and impeccably presented environment.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, train, coach, and develop public-area attendants, housepersons, floor-care specialists, and other assigned housekeeping personnel.
• Establish clear expectations for cleanliness, productivity, grooming, professionalism, and guest interaction.
• Conduct daily pre-shift meetings and communicate operational priorities.
• Prepare schedules and assign duties based on occupancy, hotel activity, and event schedules.
• Monitor team productivity and ensure assignments are completed to established standards.
• Provide hands-on training in cleaning techniques, luxury surface care, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and retention initiatives.
• Foster a positive team culture built on accountability, respect, and exceptional service.

Hotel Events & High-Traffic Operations

• Coordinate public-area housekeeping requirements for conferences, weddings, galas, corporate events, and other hotel functions.
• Partner with Banquets, Catering, and Event Operations to ensure event spaces and surrounding public areas are properly prepared.
• Maintain exceptional cleanliness during high-volume guest arrivals, departures, and special events.
• Coordinate pre-event, during-event, and post-event cleaning schedules.
• Ensure restrooms, entrances, corridors, and common areas receive appropriate attention during peak periods.
• Adjust staffing and assignments to accommodate changing hotel activity and operational demands.

Financial Management & Productivity

• Assist with the development and management of public-area housekeeping budgets.
• Monitor payroll, overtime, labor productivity, supplies, and operating expenses.
• Establish efficient staffing models based on business levels and public-space requirements.
• Manage inventory of cleaning products, equipment, tools, and operating supplies.
• Monitor product usage and implement appropriate cost-control measures.
• Maintain equipment in proper working condition and coordinate repairs or replacement when necessary.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency without compromising luxury standards.

Property Care & Preventative Maintenance

• Partner closely with Engineering to identify and resolve maintenance concerns throughout public spaces.
• Monitor the condition of flooring, carpets, upholstery, furniture, fixtures, and decorative finishes.
• Coordinate specialized cleaning and maintenance projects.
• Ensure proper cleaning procedures are followed for delicate and high-value materials.
• Identify areas requiring repair, refurbishment, or capital improvements.
• Assist with renovation projects and special property-enhancement initiatives.
• Maintain a proactive approach to preserving the hotel's physical assets.

Guest Experience & Interdepartmental Collaboration

• Maintain a visible and professional presence throughout the hotel.
• Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests and concerns.
• Ensure all public-area employees demonstrate polished hospitality and discretion.
• Collaborate closely with Front Office, Guest Relations, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Security, Engineering, and Housekeeping leadership.
• Coordinate with department leaders to minimize disruption during cleaning and maintenance activities.
• Support VIP arrivals, special events, and high-profile guest visits.
• Communicate operational concerns and service opportunities proactively.

Safety, Sanitation & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, sanitation, safety, and workplace regulations.
• Maintain proper chemical handling, labeling, storage, and safety procedures.
• Ensure employees are trained in safe equipment operation and cleaning practices.
• Monitor wet-floor procedures, signage, and other guest and employee safety precautions.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and departmental training.
• Ensure compliance with hotel security and guest privacy standards.
• Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules, inspections, and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

Required

• 3–5+ years of progressive housekeeping experience within a full-service hotel or resort.
• Previous experience as a Public Area Manager, Housekeeping Manager, Assistant Housekeeping Manager, Housekeeping Supervisor, or comparable leadership role .
• Experience within a luxury or upscale hotel environment strongly preferred .
• Proven experience overseeing public-area cleaning and maintenance standards.
• Strong knowledge of specialized cleaning techniques, floor care, carpet maintenance, and luxury surface materials.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate housekeeping teams.
• Experience with scheduling, labor productivity, inventory, and departmental cost controls.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume hotel environment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Forbes Five-Star or AAA Five Diamond hotel experience.
• Previous responsibility for public spaces within a large luxury hotel or resort.
• Experience supporting extensive meeting, banquet, and event facilities.
• Knowledge of marble, natural stone, hardwood, carpet, upholstery, and specialty surface care.
• Experience managing overnight cleaning operations or multiple shifts.
• Familiarity with professional cleaning equipment and preventative maintenance programs.
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.
• Experience with hotel housekeeping, scheduling, and labor-management systems.
