Custodian Supervisor

The purpose of this position is to supervise the staff responsible for providing a clean and safe environment in a variety of buildings and facilities throughout the City.

Please Note: An offer of employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a fingerprint screening. If the incumbent fails to obtain clearance through the fingerprint screening, they will not be able to access all necessary City buildings and therefore, may be subject to termination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
• Creates and maintains reports and logs of work progress and performance; mentors employees to improve work performance.
• Supervises and performs minor repairs, maintenance, cleaning tasks, and building and facility inspections and reports.
• Monitors supplies and inventory levels; delivers supplies as needed to worksite; maintain inventory files on computer.

Supplemental Functions:

• Performs other similar duties as required.

Knowledge:

• Supervisory principles
• Cleaning methods and procedures
• Basic cleaning solutions and chemicals
• Prioritizing work
• Cleaning equipment and preventative maintenance

Licensing and Certifications:

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

• Positions in this class require: Standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking

• Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly AND/OR walking or standing to a significant degree.

• Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, and physical hazards.

Required Experience

High school diploma, with at least five (5) years of relevant and supervisory experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
