Wound Care Nurse RN Duties and Responsibilities Works with patients who have changes in skin integrity. Directs the day‑to‑day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines governing the long‑term care facility. Evaluates the skin surface of at‑risk patients such as bedridden elderly individuals to prevent decubitus ulcers. Provides treatment protocols to ward off skin irritation and infection for wounds that may not heal well because of other medical problems such as diabetes or poor circulation. Cooperates with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained. Provides direct nursing care as necessary and as department needs may dictate. Develops and participates in programs designed for in‑service education, on‑the‑job training and orientation classes for newly assigned personnel. Implements standards of nursing practice in infection prevention, reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice and resident population. Receives and transcribes physicians’ orders to resident charts, Kardex/Care Medication Administration Record (MAR), treatment/care plans as required. Prepares and administers medications and performs treatments as ordered by the physician. Charts nurses’ notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided and the resident’s response to the care. Completes the required forms upon admission, transfer, and/or discharge. Makes written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of shift as required. All other duties as assigned. Wound Care Nurse RN Skills and Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Serves as the expert in wound care. Ability to multitask and remain calm under stress. Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Understands and follows infection control standards, policies and procedures. Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and aptitude for learning company applications. Wound Care Nurse RN Education and Experience Current CPR certification required. Nursing degree or diploma from an accredited college or university. Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state. One year of experience preferred. Long‑term care experience preferred. Physical Requirements Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices, are required. Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards; understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
