Instrument & Control Technician II (Senior Technician)

Execute operations, inspections, upkeep, and administrative duties related to a distributive control system (DCS) and all attached field devices, including the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) for a basic cycle gas power plant.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement processes and protocols as directed by the O&M Manager, involving:
• Recognize and execute on-condition tasks.
• Assess suggested modifications based on cost/effectiveness.
• Specify instrument and electrical alterations as necessary.
• Complete the O&M Tech I qualification process within 2 years of start date.
• Adhere to company and operator regulations, procedures, and practices for safe, efficient work execution.
• Compute and evaluate test data.
• Utilize installed and portable test gadgets and technical guides to troubleshoot machinery and systems.
• Oversee, preserve, and review all system startup procedures to establish support requirements for control and electrical personnel.
• Organize job duties concerning planning, work methods, standards, and reporting for assigned tasks.
• Execute routine and as-needed maintenance on plant equipment.
• Aid other plant personnel when necessary.
• Maintain site structures and surroundings.

Requirements for Success

• A 2-year technical diploma and a minimum of 5 years of industrial electrical, instrumentation, or electronics experience in power plants is mandatory.
• Alternatively, substantial experience in industrial electrical or electronics could suffice in place of a formal degree.
• Proficiency in Distributed Control Systems (DCS), GE Mark VI and ABB Bailey INFI 90, Various PLC Controllers, and Teledyne Monitor Labs CEMS controls. Preferably skilled in programming and configuration.
• Familiarity with equipment parameters, operational limits, procedures, and systems. Takes corrective actions if limits are breached.
• Understanding of combined cycle power plant systems, operations, maintenance, electrical principles, and related practices.
• Capability to decipher control drawings and P&ID's.
• Ability to make maintenance decisions with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of instrumentation tools, signal generators, relay test sets, oscilloscopes, and computers.
• Understanding of CEM System hardware, software, and reporting in the industry.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal abilities, with a willingness to learn.
• Solid mechanical understanding with advanced comprehension of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics.
• Capability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and make informed decisions.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and timeliness.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications.
• Effective interaction with colleagues and external vendors.
• Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history (if applicable).
