Purchasing Technician

General Purpose

The incumbent handles routine purchasing duties such as gathering product specifications, obtaining and tabulating bids, maintaining contracts, and explaining basic purchasing procedures to vendors and staff. Responsibilities include preparing purchasing documents, verifying requisitions, selecting vendors for items under existing contracts, resolving shipment or payment issues, and monitoring contract timelines. May also assist with basic inventory tasks and receiving shipments. Position placement to be based on experience and education Purchasing Technician I $18.53 - $22.01 Minimum requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in procurement or related field or associate degree with one (1) year of experience in procurement or related field.

Purchasing Technician II $20.43 - $24.26 Minimum requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in procurement or related field or associate degree with three (3) years of experience in procurement or related field.

Job Focus

• Gathers, quotes, negotiates prices issues purchase orders.
• Evaluates various purchasing documents for consistency, accuracy and compliance with College policy and State procurement code.
• Communicates effectively with both internal and external stakeholders (e.g. College faculty and staff as well as vendor sales and support staff.)
• Creates and maintains filing systems; organizes and retrieves documents and materials as needed.
• Maintains accurate purchasing records and documentation.
• Reviews, approves, and processes small dollar purchasing requests.
• Resolves purchasing issues related to pricing, order delays, damage or related issues.
• Processes vendor registration and updates vendor information as needed.
• Supports college purchasing card program.
• Plans, prepares and coordinates shipment, delivery, and receipt of supplies, equipment, furniture or related materials.
• Assists in the proper disposal of surplus college property.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in procurement or related field or associate degree with one (1) year of experience in procurement or related field.
• Ability to resolve complaints and concerns.
• Ability to analyze purchasing requests/orders for compliance with institutional procedures.
• Ability to evaluate procurement bids in accordance with established criteria.
• Ability to prepare bids, requests for quotes, and proposals in compliance with institutional policies.
• Knowledge of cost analysis techniques.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in procurement or related field.
