This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States. Duration This position is funded for up to 1248 total hours. Area Information: Location of duty station is ~8 miles within Everglades National Park in Homestead, FL. Conditions are often hot and humid with severe weather occurring quickly. Field work will occur in open marsh land, mangrove forests, open water, at great distance (max: 100 miles) from duty station. Mosquitoes, poisonous plants, venomous snakes, and dangerous wildlife are present within the Park and are frequently encountered. Qualifications: Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in construction or carpentry OR HS/GED Degree with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) in designing and contructing platforms, boardwalks, or science installations in outdoor and remote environments preferably wetlands * A valid driver's license is required. Applicants must be physically capable of carrying heavy loads (45+ lbs), working in extreme heat and standing water, and navigating remote, difficult terrain. Experience operating airboats and motorboats, as well as experience flying as a helicopter crew member, are preferred qualifications. * Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook Duties: The position is responsible for designing, planning, and performing construction, repair, and maintenance of remote hydrological monitoring platforms and boardwalk structures in the Everglades. The individual supports critical restoration monitoring by safely accessing difficult field locations and working closely with National Park Service staff to ensure infrastructure remains functional and compliant with program needs. * Perform repairs, maintenance, and full rebuilds of wooden, metal, and composite structures in harsh, wetland environments. 40% * Lead and assist in the design and planning of hydrostation platforms and boardwalk structures. 20% * Travel to remote work sites via boat, airboat, hiking, or helicopter, often carrying tools and materials. 20% * Ensure safe work practices and compliance with NPS safety standards and environmental protection requirements. 10% * Support other physical resources inventory and monitoring needs related to maintenance, repairs, and rebuilds. 10% Other: * Potential need for Motorboat Operator Certification and DOI aviation aircrew member training. * Air travel anticipated: occasional, daily travel via helicopter to remote field stations * Health and Safety Considerations: The NPS Field Operations Supervisor will provide all required DOI and NPS policies, review them with the applicant, and ensure compliance in all field activities. Regular safety briefings, coordination with Park Law Enforcement and Dispatch for remote missions, after-action reviews, and established communication plans are standard operating practices. * Required Safety Gear: All personal protective equipment needed for the work will be supplied by NPS including PFD, hearing protection, GPS location devices, and other mandatory safety equipment. * Physical requirements: Applicants must be physically capable of carrying heavy loads (45+ lbs), working in extreme heat and standing water, and navigating remote, difficult terrain.
