We are currently looking for a Operations Director to join our Operations team located at our office in Charlotte, NC . Our ideal candidate for a Operations Director is someone with 10+ years of experience who is an experienced mechanical construction leader responsible for leading and developing assigned project management teams and projects within the division. Working closely with the Division Vice President and Operations leadership, this role will drive profitable execution, financial accountability, risk management, consistent project management practices, and operational excellence. The Operations Director will oversee assigned Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Coordinators while partnering closely with Field Operations.

Primary responsibilities for icon's Operations Director include:

• Lead, manage, mentor, and develop assigned project management teams, including Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Coordinators.
• Maintain visibility into assigned projects' financial performance, schedules, staffing, risk, customer relationships, and major operational priorities.
• Hold assigned project teams accountable for accurate forecasting, cost control, margin performance, cash flow, billing, change management, and timely financial reporting.
• Review project forecasts, cost reports, labor performance, contingency, changes, and projected profitability, and work with project leadership to develop corrective action plans when needed.
• Ensure assigned project teams establish and maintain effective execution plans covering schedule, procurement, engineering, VDC, fabrication, subcontractors, commissioning, turnover, and closeout.
• Partner closely with the Field Operations Director to align project schedules and management plans with manpower, productivity, fabrication, and field execution needs.
• Serve as an escalation point for significant commercial, contractual, customer, and project management issues within the assigned portfolio, including major change orders, claims, and project recovery efforts.
• Help establish consistent project management standards, processes, reporting expectations, and accountability across the division.
• Plan project management staffing for assigned current and future work, coordinate with the Division Vice President to balance resources, and identify recruiting or development needs before they impact execution.
• Develop future leaders through coaching, performance management, training, succession planning, and opportunities for increased responsibility.
• Maintain key customer and business partner relationships within the assigned portfolio and support project teams during executive-level meetings, difficult conversations, and major project decisions.
• Collaborate with Preconstruction, other Operations leaders, and support groups to ensure successful project handoff, risk identification, and alignment between estimating assumptions and operations execution.
• Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, standardization, technology adoption, VDC, prefabrication, modularization, and other practices that improve project performance.

Primary qualifications for icon's Operations Director include:

• 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical construction project management and operations, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
• Proven experience leading large, complex construction projects and managing multiple project teams or a significant portfolio of work.
• Strong knowledge of project financial management, forecasting, cost control, change management, contracts, cash flow, and risk management.
• Strong understanding of construction scheduling, procurement, engineering, VDC, fabrication, field operations, subcontractor management, commissioning, and project closeout.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop Project Directors, Project Managers, and other project management professionals.
• Strong communication, judgment, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, customers, project teams, and field leadership.
• Experience in industrial, mission critical, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, or similarly complex mechanical construction environments preferred.
• Experience working in a union construction environment preferred, with the ability to travel to projects and maintain direct engagement with project teams and customers.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• Salary Range: $185,000 - $230,000
