Our client in the compostable packaging industry is looking for a Business Development Manager to build and grow their protein tray, produce tray and packaging, and grocery perimeter business with a target market of meat, poultry, and seafood processors, produce growers, packers and fresh-cut processors, and grocery perimeter departments. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the sales process and project timeline from lead generation and product trials to customer approval, sales, and account growth. Ideal candidates already have strong industry connections, knowledge of these products and markets, and experience managing lengthy sales cycles, product trials, and approvals. This role requires a true hunter who can travel regularly and has a genuine passion for sustainability. [REMOTE] Business Development Manager, Protein, Produce and Grocery Perimeter Responsibilities

Leverage existing relationships with processors, growers, packers, grocers, and distributors

Generate leads via cold calls, referrals, and events; follow up on within 24 hours via CRM tool

Target accounts with known changes: foam/plastic phase-outs, sustainability laws, PFAS rules

Learn each accounts pack formats, equipment, specs, and storage conditions

Match account requirements to the right product; escalate gaps to product development

Lead sampling and trials; support shelf-life testing with ops and quality teams

Document trial results, resolve issues with product development, and drive to spec approval

Coordinate with supply chain on tooling, MOQs, lead times, freight, and warehousing

Ensure every program launches on time and stays in supply through seasonal produce peaks

Educate customers on compostable packaging, foam/plastic/PFAS legislation, and LCA data

Set and manage expectations on performance, limitations, cost vs. foam/plastic, and timelines

Build and maintain a robust pipeline with realistic volume, probability, and time to close

Keep forecasts current and share pipeline on demand

After launch, manage pricing, service, and growth across protein, produce, and perimeter

[REMOTE] Business Development Manager, Protein, Produce and Grocery Perimeter Qualifications

5+ years progressive sales or business development experience required

3+ years experience selling packaging to food or grocery processors/packers/retailers required

Experience managing product trials and customer approvals required

Technical knowledge of protein, produce, and grocery packaging materials required

Familiarity with food safety, packaging compliance, and sustainability regulations required

CRM/ERM experience required
