Summary
The Instrument Technician must have the knowledge and ability to manage electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

Qualification Requirements
- High School Graduate or G.E.D.
- Must have at least four (4) years of training or experience as an Analyzer Technician I or equivalent.
- Must have skills in conduit, tubing, and piping installation.
- Must be able to mount stands and install instruments.
- Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- TWIC required.
- M ust have a valid Texas Driver's License with minimal infractions.
- The employee must be able to use standard and/or metric rule to measure.
- Demonstrate ability to use basic math calculations for measuring and cutting pipes accurately.
- Accurately follow instructions.
- Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
- Teach others when needed.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Accurately interpret and apply information from work orders, job orders, specifications, blueprints, ISO's or other drawings. Recognize basic blueprint terms and symbols for job application.
- Identify, recognize, and demonstrate safe usage of power tools appropriate for the job.
- Recognize various materials used in piping systems and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques.
- Select and safely use appropriate equipment which may include (but not limited to) manlifts, forklifts, and company trucks.
- Demonstrate understanding of unit's stability as it pertains to the relationship between the instruments, process and analyzer.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of mechanical and process systems.
- Demonstrate ability to check flows, pressures, and temperatures of the sample system.
- Demonstrate ability to safely monitor a repair sample system.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill required to accurately operate on various types of test equipment available on sites.
- Demonstrate skill in instrument reapplications.
- Demonstrate ability to design and construct complex sample systems including wiring, conduit, etc.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all codes, standards, application manuals, and publications.
- Demonstrate planning capabilities in coordinating work with other technicians.
- Required working in: Climbing, bending, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, standing, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- The ability to work in elevated positions is a must.
- The employee must be able to work in confined spaces as well as wear the following safety equipment when need be life vests, ear protection, rubber gloves, leather gloves, hard hat, slicker suit, acid suit, rubber gloves, full face breathing mask, wearing full safety harness, or wearing a face shield.
- The employee must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
- Being near moving mechanical equipment.
- Possible electrical shock. (From welding equipment)
- Exposure to burns and radiant energy.
- Noise levels due to tools used in this craft.
- Fumes, dusts, and foreign material in the work area because of the nature of the work.
