Facilities Maintenance Worker

Fincantieri Marine Group is hiring for Facilities Maintenance workers in the Facilities department at our Sturgeon Bay, WI location.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing confined space inspections and testing, general facility and equipment maintenance, and a variety of waterfront support activities throughout our 63-acre shipyard. Duties include inspecting and monitoring confined spaces, troubleshooting and repairing equipment and building systems, setting up vessel and facility ventilation, supporting plumbing and electrical maintenance, and assisting with seasonal and high-water operations. The position also performs housekeeping and equipment storage duties and may be assigned miscellaneous tasks as needed.

Essential Functions

• Follow directions under intermittent supervision and perform assigned duties safely and efficiently, including miscellaneous tasks outside the craft as needed.
• Inspect confined spaces, including cargo holds, ballast tanks, fuel tanks, sewage tanks, water tanks, and other designated areas.
• Perform general maintenance and facility support, including ventilation setup, generalized plumbing and electrical work, building heaters and ventilation systems, air compressors, and roof inspections.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various equipment and systems, including NOVA and Flowtron ventilation systems.
• Support waterfront and seasonal operations, including snow removal, high-water preparation and pumping, vessel ventilation, and bubbler tube installation/removal.
• Maintain and properly store equipment and perform housekeeping duties, including yard and skiff cleanup.
• Maintain the ability and willingness to perform physically demanding, highly energetic work on the waterfront; reliable attendance is an essential function of the position.
• Follow all organizational policies and procedures and maintain a commitment to Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety policies. Other duties and overtime as assigned

Required Skills

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be a U.S. Person.
• Must be able to work at heights.
• Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions. (cold, hot, rain, snow, etc.)
• Must have knowledge of construction materials/methods and basic blueprint reading.
• Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in fast-paced environments.
• Must have basic organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
• Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMG and have high values for safety awareness.

Education and Experience

• Previous maintenance experience
• Ability to stick weld
• Ability to cut with an oxy acetylene torch
• Ability to operate heavy machinery / motor vehicles
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. The employee may also be required to work in confined spaces and at varying heights. Frequent use of PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
