Head Custodian

Supervise and lead the custodial team to maintain safe, clean, and well-functioning district facilities that support a positive learning environment for students and staff.

Facility Management & Safety:

• Open buildings on schedule and conduct daily pre-arrival inspections of hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and grounds to address safety hazards.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and basic repairs (HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
• Oversee regular inspections of playgrounds, bleachers, and high-traffic areas to minimize liability and property risks.

Team Leadership & Administration:

• Organize, schedule, direct, and evaluate the work of the custodial staff.
• Support continuous professional development and safety training for the custodial team.
• Maintain up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in compliance with modern OSHA guidelines and ensure proper chemical handling.

Inventory & Purchasing:

• Maintain an ongoing inventory of custodial equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Assist in sourcing, selecting, and requisitioning necessary building supplies.

General Operations:

• Perform hands-on cleaning and janitorial duties as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with school staff, administrators, and external contractors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Proven experience in facility maintenance and custodial supervision.
• Working knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment, building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical), and safety protocols.
• Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting 50+ lbs, standing, crawling, and climbing as needed.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organization skills.

Terms of Employment & Evaluation:

Employment terms are defined by the current collective bargaining agreement and individual employment contract. Performance is evaluated annually per Board of Education policy.
