He/she is responsible for the coordination of the day to day functions and activities of all nursing and cardiovascular specialist functions in the Cath Lab. The Clinical Coordinator serves as a resource/support to the staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments. Manages staff schedule, call schedule, case load/schedule and stats related to the Cath Lab. Performs a variety of administrative functions in support of the Director. He/she is responsible for performing or assisting on a wide variety of clinical procedures requiring independent judgment including utilization of specialty equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for coordination and implementation of the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for providing and coordinating patient care with an understanding and awareness of age specific needs. The Clinical Coordinator coordinates the educational needs of the patient, family or patient support system, including biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial needs. The Clinical Coordinator will successfully collaborate with multidisciplinary, specialty and physician groups. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for regulatory compliance and readiness as well as quality and patient safety initiatives. The Clinical Coordinator provides direct patient care as needed in the Cath Lab.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:Clinical Skills:Uses critical thinking skills.Delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem patient care situationsPreps the patient for procedure.Demonstrates and understands sterile and aseptic technique.Demonstrates ability/proficiency to fulfill role of circulating nurse and monitor during all procedures in the Cath Lab and all equipment/software used in this roleDemonstrates ability/proficiency to fulfill/learn the duties of the scrub role during all procedures in the Cath Lab and all equipment/software used in this roleDemonstrates proficiency in core skills/competencies of a registered nurseMust be able to take Cath Lab call rotationDemonstrates adherence to infection control policies and procedures. Verifies written orders, seeks clarification if unclear.Appropriately disposes of all special wastes including sharps, chemo, etc. per hospital policy and procedure.Demonstrate proficiency in the administration of medications and moderate sedation given in the Cath Lab per policy and procedures.Recognizes and reports appropriately EKG and hemodynamic changes.Maintains integrity of sterile field and exhibits knowledge of sterile procedures.Performs QC of the ACT (activated clotting time) machine and GEM OPL oxygen saturation machine for both optical and liquid. Documents appropriately and accurately. Communicates with Laboratory regarding discrepancies and regulatory issues.Opens and closes interventional suite, cardiac cath lab and recovery areas, documenting accordingly. Assess and follows through replacing supplies. Performs defibrillation and crash cart checks.Quality and Patient Safety:Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers e.g.. armband, DOB, verbal identification.Verifies written orders, seeks clarification if unclear.Understands and complies with verbal order RBAC and performs necessary follow-up with written order.Uses and understands pre-procedural verification/ Time OutUnderstands and complies with site/ side marking when indicatedInterprets, supports, and implements system and departmental SCIP initiativesDemonstrates adherence to infection control policies and procedures.Appropriately disposes of all special wastes including sharps, chemo, etc. per hospital policy and procedure.Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, in order to ensure quality care.Job Responsibilities and supervision:Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs including pre-procedure work up and post monitoring of outpatients if neededKnows existing lines of communication and authority, handles communications properly and is dependable, cooperative and emotionally stable.Introduces self to patient and/ or guardian upon entering room utilizing proper scripting; AIDET.Completes necessary paperwork.Ensures that the Cath Lab procedure room is sterile and safe for the patientMust have a strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, arduous cases.oversees the schedule for the Cath Lab including patient, nurses and cardiovascular specialistsmaintains stats related to Cath Lab productivity and daily function.Oversee and/or Order supplies and assist with inventory managementCoordinates and delegate's Cath Lab patient care assignments / assure staffing and breaks are appropriate for the Cath LabAssists in recruitment efforts, interview applicants; assist with performance evaluationsAssist in chest pain center education, stats and maintenanceResponsible for orientation of new personnel, assigns preceptors; communicates progress to new employee and director.Assist the Director in the responsibility for entering and reviewing Kronos on a daily basis.Maintains modality workflow to assure patient throughput that maximizes equipment utilization and meets patients' expectations regarding wait time and thoroughness of exam.Serves as first level of contact for employee concernsAssists with employee performance management including issuing Anecdotal and recommending further PM, if necessary.Establishes and modifies department protocols with guidance from physicians and department directorParticipates, maintains and conducts PI (Process Improvement) in the departmentImplement Policy and Procedures for new and upcoming procedures to the Cath LabEducation and support:Responsible for staff in the Cath Lab, patient, family/ support system education (works with the hospital educator and product vendors to assure education for the Cath Lab staff including nurses and cardiovascular specialists is sufficient)Provides supportive environment for physicians, residents, management, students and staff.Promotes shared governance and evidence based practice.Serves as professional role model and attends/conducts Cath Lab meetingsPromotes team spirit and positive work environment.Engaged in departmental and WellStar initiativesPlans, develops, implements and evaluates education to hospital/support staff in regards to pre/post cath patient care and chest pain accreditation when neededRequired Minimum Education:Diploma (Nurse)Nursing Degree PreferredRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state CompactBasic Life Support or BLS - InstructorPediatric Adv Life Support-Preferred or PALS - Instructor-Preferred or PALS - Provisional-PreferredAdvanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - ProvisionalAdditional License(s) and Certification(s): Required Minimum Experience:Minimum 3 years of Diagnostic and Interventional Cath Lab.RequiredRequired Minimum Skills:KSAsProficiencyAbility to read, write and speak English language, optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and holds basic computer skills;Ability to function in a fast paced environment and respond to emergencies in using a decisive, composed and respectful manner;Strong interpersonal, collaborative skills along with customer service skills required;Possess excellent time management skills;
