Job Details Job Location: Ganado, AZ 86505 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: Graduate Degree Job Shift: Any Job Category: Health Care Position Summary This position is located at the Sage Memorial Hospital (SMH) under the Medical Staff Department. The incumbent provides patient care in the Outpatient Department at SMH. The incumbent is a licensed physician who diagnoses, treats, and manages the comprehensive physical, emotional, and social health of infants, children, and adolescents. The incumbent oversees preventive care, tracks developmental milestones, and diagnoses and treats acute illnesses and chronic conditions up to age 18. The incumbent is highly specialized and provides consultation services to other physicians and medical care professionals. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Complies with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Interviews and examines patients; reviews post-medical history; and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain preliminary diagnosis. Directs, prescribes, or provides treatment or arranges for specialized care for patient referrals, as required. Decisions are based upon obtained information, professional medical knowledge and skills, and prescribed policies and procedures. Makes observation notes to be incorporated into clinical records. Provides emergency care, as required. Provides definitive management in all medical categories for cases that do not require referrals. Provides total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services to patients under the incumbent's care. Reviews patients’ medications, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan, and patient observation. Modifies regimen, as indicated. Instructs and counsels family members, as required. Performs well-child exams to track physical growth, evaluate cognitive and behavioral milestones, and administer routine childhood vaccinations. Patient volume expectations in Outpatient – The practitioner is anticipated to attend to two (2) patients per hour during their standard shift. This results in a total of sixteen (16) patients over an 8-hour shift and twenty (20) patients over a 10-hour shift. These projections reflect an estimated average number of patient encounters and are not intended to serve as maximum or minimum thresholds. Providers may not end their shifts early or refuse patients at any time unless explicitly authorized by the Outpatient Clinic Director. Assess symptoms, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate treatment plans for illnesses (e.g., flu, ear infections) and injuries. Oversee long-term care plans for issues such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, or ADHD. Counsel parents and guardians on proper nutrition, sleep hygiene, safety, and physical/mental development. Refers patients to appropriate contracted medical or other facilities and provides full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at SMH. Ensures timely follow-up care, as required. Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all needed pertinent clinical data to provide comprehensive medical care. Works closely with other independent providers, allied health professionals, and other health care professionals (nurses, behavioral health consultants, Community Health workers, case managers, Social Workers, etc.) in the management of family medical, psychological, and social problems. Supports the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) concept. Participate in and attend medical staff meetings and functions. Participate in quality assurance activities of the medical staff. Participate in and attend in-service and educational programs seeking to improve and/or learn job-related skills. Strives to maintain and represent the mission, values, and goals of the organization. Adheres to SMH regulatory standards, policies & procedures, and processes. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited school and a 3-year pediatric residency. Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics. Maintain a current, active, full, and unrestricted medical license in a designated area of medical subspecialty Current and Valid DEA certification. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification Valid Driver’s License. Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program requirements and background investigation. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications Extensive medical knowledge as evidenced by a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic degree and a license to practice medicine in the specialty field designated by the position. Must have strong clinical judgment, deep empathy, and excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with both frightened children and anxious parents. An interest in the problems and needs of underserved people and of the Native American population. Skill in relating effectively to members of a Native American culture. Skill in working with interpreters. Ability to relate effectively to other physicians, non-physician providers, and other staff, to work as a member of a health care team. Ability to be an effective mentor and role model. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand for extended periods, use hands to finger or feel, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more depending on the situation. Work Environment Work is generally performed in a medical office or hospital setting with a moderate noise level. Exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations may exist requiring adherence to extensive safety precautions, including the use of protective equipment and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
