Description

Summary: Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess and diagnose patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
• Develop, discuss and communicate a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other to address all identified needs.
• Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
• Evaluate the identified problems, care provided and patient's responses are reassessed to meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team to ensure quality care.
• Maintain current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursue professional growth and development.
• Function as a role model for current and new staff.
• Attend all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
• Follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
• Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
• Promote effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Professional Requirements:

• Complete annual education requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Report to work on time and as scheduled.
• Wear identification while on duty.
• Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
• Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
• Comply with all organizational policies.

Job Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure.
• Current state registration or eligibility to do so.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS and PEARS.
• Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
