Custodian

$22.13 – $28.39 per hour FY 2026–2027 Custodial Maintenance and Grounds CBA (Step scale based on experience)

The Role

As a Custodian, you will deliver measurable results in providing students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, healthy, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

Reports To: Building Principal and Facilities Manager

Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Working knowledge of custodial duties, services, and equipment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including reaching, bending, stooping, sitting, and standing for extended periods
• Basic math and writing skills
• Ability to read and understand policies, procedures, and written/verbal instructions
• Strong communication skills (listen, speak, read, and write effectively)
• Ability to operate custodial tools and equipment safely and effectively
• Demonstrated ability to perform upper and lower body movement required for custodial work
• Must demonstrate competency and experience in custodial services or related work
• Additional qualifications may be accepted at the discretion of the Facilities Manager

Responsibilities

• Follow established schedules and procedures for custodial care of district facilities
• Maintain safe, clean, and orderly classrooms, hallways, stairways, cafeterias, gym areas, locker rooms, and restrooms
• Perform snow removal, sanding/salting, and maintain safe walkways and entrances
• Inspect playground equipment and report needed repairs
• Conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections and report issues
• Inspect ceiling tiles daily for water damage and report concerns
• Check exit doors and panic hardware during building occupancy
• Replace accessible light bulbs when possible and report others needing attention
• Maintain custodial closets, equipment, and supplies in clean and secure condition
• Perform basic maintenance tasks within skill level
• Maintain clean grounds free of litter and debris
• Communicate with administration regarding priorities and changes in work assignments
• Work cooperatively with staff and maintain professional relationships
• Remain on site during school hours and authorized non-school hours when required
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Facilities Manager
