Star Staffing is partnering with a manufacturing leader in California’s Central Valley to hire a hands-on expert who keeps production humming. If you love building, repairing, and improving equipment with equal parts brains and brawn, this role is for you.

Compensation: $34–$40 per hour, DOE | Schedule: Monday–Friday

A Day in the Life

You start with a quick walk-through of the plant, noting a conveyor that needs alignment and a guard you designed last month performing perfectly. Before lunch, you’ve turned a custom bushing on the lathe, TIG-welded a bracket, and helped production troubleshoot a jam. By shift end, preventive maintenance checks are logged, a pump is back online, and tomorrow’s fabrication layout is sketched and ready.

What You’ll Build, Fix, and Improve

• Run manual machines—lathe, mill, and drill press—to fabricate and recondition parts.
• Perform welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, and stick), precision cutting, and assembly.
• Install, repair, and diagnose issues on mechanical systems, plant machinery, and facility assets.
• Design and craft custom pieces: components, tooling, fixtures, and machine guards.
• Execute pipe fitting, torch cutting, and material layout work across various metals.
• Drive preventive maintenance activities, inspections, and accurate documentation.
• Partner with engineering, production, and quality to remove equipment bottlenecks.
• Pitch in on facility needs such as carpentry and basic electrical tasks.
• Champion shop organization, cleanliness, and safety.

What You Bring

• Deep experience in manual machining, metal fabrication, welding, and pipe fitting.
• Fluency reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics.
• Hands-on mechanical intuition and strong troubleshooting ability.
• Working knowledge of preventive maintenance; basic electrical preferred.
• Comfort with shop equipment: lathes, mills, drill presses, band saws, grinders, and hand tools.
• Clear communicator who can coach peers on technical processes.
• Associate degree, technical training, or comparable on-the-job background.

Physical Realities of the Job

• Regular sitting, standing, and walking; lifting up to 75 lbs; frequent bending, reaching, and fine motor work.
• Indoor and outdoor tasks with changing temperatures, dust, and uneven footing.
• Meets vision and respirator certification standards.
