MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST II

Overview The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is looking for a self‑motivated, independent, hardworking Medical Technologist II to work in Sanford, FL. The position reports to the Operations and Management Manager and is part of the Tuberculosis, Refugee Health, and Employee Health Programs. The role is highly independent and involves client eligibility determinations, administration of services, and coordination of program activities. It requires interaction with external and internal clients, prioritization, flexibility, multitasking, and impeccable customer service. Responsibilities Administrative Support – manage front‑desk reception, client check‑in, paperwork, appointment scheduling, billing, record entry into electronic health record systems (HMS, Florida SHOTS, PRISM), inventory management, purchasing, and lab billing reconciliation. Clinical / Lab Support – take and record vital signs, perform vision and hearing screenings, interview clients, provide counseling and education, maintain logs, perform basic lab procedures including specimen collection, labeling, packaging, shipping, and laboratory order entry, and participate in disease control clinics and employee health testing. Other Duties – represent the Department at community screening programs, outreach events, and education efforts; provide cross‑training support; participate in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives; complete mandatory training; perform emergency duty as required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Prioritizing, multitasking, and managing multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment. Front‑desk operations, client intake, and communication skills. Computer system and electronic record use. General office practices, administrative procedures, and record‑keeping. Organizing work, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accurate records. Managing phone calls, voicemail, messages, and client inquiries efficiently. Managing files, logs, inventories, and documentation. Basic clinical procedures and patient care practices. Specimen collection, labeling, and preparation for transport. Specimen collection and handling methods, including phlebotomy. Following clinical and laboratory protocols with attention to detail. Conducting basic clinical screenings and obtaining patient information. Laboratory safety, infection control, and basic laboratory workflows. Establishing effective working relationships with others. Customer service principles and professional communication. Supporting program activities and completing required reports and training promptly. Public health principles, outreach practices, and general program operations. Representing the department professionally during outreach and program activities. Quality assurance and improvement concepts. Adaptation to new tasks, procedures, and program needs. Professionalism, flexibility, and learning new procedures quickly. Performing a variety of tasks in support of different programs as needed. Qualifications Certified in Phlebotomy. Willingness to work in‑office or field as required. Acceptance of emergency duty before, during, or beyond normal work hours. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual: English and Spanish.
