Director of Financial Reporting & Consolidations Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid) About the Opportunity An established, industry‑leading real estate investment organization is seeking an experienced Director of Financial Reporting to lead its corporate financial reporting function. This highly visible leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee consolidated reporting, mentor a talented accounting team, and play a key role in transforming financial reporting processes during a major enterprise system implementation. The ideal candidate is a strategic accounting leader with strong technical accounting expertise, public company reporting experience, and a passion for developing teams while driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Lead all aspects of consolidated financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting under multiple accounting frameworks (including GAAP and IFRS). Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial reporting packages for executive leadership and external stakeholders. Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing coaching, performance development, and effective workload planning. Serve as the primary point of contact for external reporting requirements and collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure reporting deadlines are consistently met. Analyze consolidated financial results, prepare variance analyses, and present key financial insights to senior leaders. Research complex accounting matters and prepare technical accounting memorandums to support significant business transactions. Lead the redesign and optimization of financial reporting processes following a large‑scale ERP implementation, identifying opportunities for automation and increased efficiency. Partner closely with Internal Audit and Risk teams to strengthen internal controls and support SOX compliance initiatives. Coordinate annual audit activities and maintain strong relationships with external auditors. Collaborate with Tax, Treasury, and other finance teams to ensure compliance with legal entity reporting requirements. Drive continuous process improvements while maintaining a high standard of financial integrity and operational excellence. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant public accounting experience (Big Four or large public accounting firm preferred). Prior experience leading financial reporting within a large, complex organization. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and public company reporting requirements; IFRS experience is a plus. Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams. Excellent technical accounting research and analytical skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex accounting concepts to executive leadership.
