Director Environment Health Safety

A growing, multi-site organization is seeking a Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to lead the strategy, development, and execution of enterprise-wide environmental, health, and safety programs. This role will oversee EHS initiatives across operational, manufacturing, and laboratory environments, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations while building a culture focused on safety, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement. This person will need to be local to any of our locations across the US and this role will require up to 50% travel. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive Environmental Health & Safety strategy aligned with organizational goals and operational growth. Provide leadership and oversight for EHS programs across multiple operational locations, including manufacturing and technical environments. Foster a proactive culture of safety through leadership engagement, training, and accountability. Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those governed by agencies such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and U.S. Food and Drug Administration where applicable. Maintain and oversee programs related to workplace safety, environmental protection, hazardous materials, and chemical management. Lead regulatory inspections, internal audits, and corrective action initiatives to maintain compliance. Regulated Environment & Quality Systems Ensure EHS programs align with regulatory and quality system frameworks such as International Organization for Standardization standards, Good Manufacturing Practice, and Good Laboratory Practice where applicable. Partner with quality and operational teams to integrate EHS requirements into broader compliance and operational systems. Support facility readiness for external audits and regulatory reviews. Implement hazard identification, job safety analysis, and risk mitigation strategies across manufacturing and operational settings. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Ensure appropriate reporting and documentation for safety and environmental incidents. Program Development Establish standardized EHS policies, procedures, and systems across all locations. Develop and implement environmental programs including waste management, air emissions, chemical safety, and environmental compliance where applicable. Support manufacturing and operational leaders in integrating safety best practices into daily operations. Training & Safety Culture Design and implement safety training programs aligned with regulatory requirements and operational needs. Partner with leadership teams to drive employee engagement, accountability, and continuous safety improvement. Monitor and report key safety and environmental performance metrics. Use data and trend analysis to drive operational improvements and reduce workplace risk. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial, or regulated operational environments Demonstrated experience managing EHS programs across multiple sites Strong working knowledge of regulatory frameworks including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and applicable food or product safety regulatory standards Proven ability to partner with operations and manufacturing leadership to drive safety initiatives Experience supporting operations operating under regulated frameworks such as International Organization for Standardization, Good Manufacturing Practice, or Good Laboratory Practice Preferred Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Experience supporting environmental and safety compliance within manufacturing or production environments Experience building scalable EHS programs in growing organizations Strategic EHS leadership Regulatory compliance and audit management Manufacturing and operational safety expertise Risk management and incident prevention Cross-functional collaboration and communication Data-driven decision making and continuous improvement #J-18808-Ljbffr Confidential Healthcare and Life Sciences Company
